It sounds like the transmission needs service and adjustment. Typically you depress teh clutch and start the vehicle then try to shift into reverse. Try starting the vehicle, let the clutch out, then depress the clutch and attempt to put the vehicle in reverse. If it still will not engage reverse then you definately need transmission service and adjustment. There are several causes for this and they all require inernal repair of the transmission.

no a/t here as 4th period
so must be manual transmission

output shaft speed sensor on top transmission. just depress the release tab disconnect electrical connector then remove output shaft sensor bolt.remove sensor.

you need to start first with a transmission service, (usually performed ever 60k miles) being you dont have reverse sounds kinda like you may need a transmisson

Hyundai accent won't move in reverse. It can go foward just fine.

on a hyundai you have a shifting sensor attached to the transmission that if it starts to go bad it will cause many problems, hard shifting, loss of power or no shifting.
