The problem i am having is that the motor has a knock sound to it. If i drive the motor smooths out and the check engine light flashes. As i let off the accel., it stays smooth until the rpm's get low again. When i park the car and put it in park, the check engine light stays solid. I plugged into it and got a code p0303. Cyl. 3 missfire. I pulled the coils out and bracket as well as the alt. i pulled the #3 plug and found it gapped at 62 with no electroyd left and plug is burnt. i pulled cyl. #2 plug out and same thing. I have not done a compression test yet or taken the valve cover off. Think it is possible to have a bent rod or do you think it is just plugs.

    Do the comp test. Something is definately out of whack. When were the plugs last changed?

When was the spark plugs last?sound like the ignition system also check low votage sides of circuit.( wire,conectors. pins')

When a check engine light flashes you are dealing with a misfire.and when you said you accerated it it began to knock, sounds like you overheated the vehicle,you need to check the cooling system,let the car cool off before you open the radiator cap.

Hi Rcw, It sounds to me as if you have major engine problems. Knocking sounds are not good omens when coming from engines. The oil pressure light measures pressure not level. Get the vehicle towed in and diagnosed correctly. Don't drive it as that could cause more problems. Regards John

Sound like the cam sensor is loose and not seated properly or has something foreign on it.

1999 windstar engine knocks under load and dashboard lights acting strange, flashing on and off, fading in and out
The first item to look into is the a;alternator and the surrounding parts.

Here's the check list

alternator turning smoothly?

belt tensioner jumpy/hopping/swing?

worn belt?

locate the knock sound....most likely from belt tensioner and belt.

Check voltage on battery. It should be between12.6-13.4V

2003 Mitsubishi Montero (full-size) check engine light is on, the engine sounds like it knocks as I accellerate and the shift diff. lights blink after driving 25 or 30 miles.
The engine is probably making a knocking sound because the oil needs to be changed or replaced. The check engine light is indicating that you will need regular dealership servicing soon, however you can still drive the vehicle but depending on mileage it will determine what services are required.

Have jeep engine light on
Check the Oil in the Motor. If it is Low, Top it off and see if the Knocking Quites down a Little. This could be a Bad Oil Pump.
