I have a 1996 pajero 2.8 and the management light stays on constantly. It is very hard starting and when I do get to start it loose power.
My pajero alos blows out white smoke.
Head gasket gone.

If your diesel engine is blowing white smoke then you have a valve problem....nothing else
White smoke doesn't necessarily mean you have a cooling system internal leak it could also be burning oil. Burning oil tends to linger in the atmosphere while radiator coolant dissipates a couple of seconds. Burning oil will have a petroleum odor while coolant would have sort of a sweet smell. A shop that is honest is usually equipped with correct tool to check a blown gasket. Your Pajero is special although the cooling system is no different than any older vehicle. The concept to cool an engine hasn't changed unless it's being cooled by a big block of ice, so shops can't take advantage of you not understanding mechanically. It has a pump with fluid flowing through a radiator and aroung the internal engine block, it hasn't changed. Now if it doesn't use a pump and a radiator and it cools the engine, that I want to see. They'll have the tool which cost less than a $100 to have, so no excuses there if they want to rip you off.

The mechanics on St Helena is not to speed yet on pajeros. They have test my pajero using the computer - however the computer failed to diagonise the proble, if the head gasket is the problem, would this show up on the computer. Also my pajero is not using water.
Thanks, I will try that and get back to you. Cheers
