92 Ford 7.3 non-turbo won't start - worked fine minutes earlier

I have a 92 Ford 7.3 non-turbo I just bought. I have started it several times since I bought it and today I just got it licensed and drove it 10 miles without any problems. I tried starting it 15 minutes later after shutting it down and it failed to start. It cranks over fine. The fuel tank registers just under a 1/4 tank, I took off one of the small rubber hoses on the fuel filter housing and fuel shoots out of it when I turn over the engine. I noticed the motor oil is on the "add" mark on the dip stick - (didn't know if there was a safety shutoff switch. Are there any other shutoff switches I can check? I looked at all the fuses (they are fine). I've never had a diesel and I don't know where to begin. Any electrical connectors I can check, and if so, how do I? -volt/ohm meter, sound, etc? Can diesel fuel be placed in the intake like a gas engine to see if it will fire? The problem should be simple... It ran fine one moment and didn't the next, it just cranks over.

This may sound stupid but the next time this happens take some ice cold water and pour it over the injection pump.if it starts what you nhave is a bad pump.this is usually caused by someone washing off a hot motor and what happens is it changes the clearances just enough that hot, the pump cannot reach min injection pressure. the injection pump is located in the center front of the motor

I have a 92 legacy sedan with bad motor. Bought a 92 legacy wagon turbo. Do I have to change wire harness in front with computor, or can I change just computor?

hi im presuming your old car is non turbo if so you will have to change a lot of parts over to make it work, you will have to replace entire engine loom, the ecu will need changed over then the fuel pump and all of the fuel lines will need to be replaced with the bigger turbo model ones to keep up also the trans will bolt strait up but will be the major weak point so swap over if possible.

I bought a 2004 VW Jetta GLS 1.8L Turbo earlier today. It has a clean carfax and recent (within a week) negative dealer diagnostics...it overheated. Well...it overheated within 2 minutes of hard...

Hold the dealer accountable, for starters! It could be the thermostat, a coolant leak, a severe engine problem, who knows? You shouldn't have to concern yourself with diagnosing and fixing a car you bought yesterday, unless you bought it as-is.

Like to know how to set timing on a 92 suberu. all

The '92 Subaru Legacy uses a distributorless ignition system. No adjustment is possible/necessary. The computer adjusts the timing continuously.

You can check the timing if you have a timing light. The spec for engines with a turbo charger is 15 degrees plus or minus 8 degrees at 700 RPM. Non-turbo engines are 20 degrees plus or minus 8 degrees at 700 RPM.

1990 ford diesel non turbo

it sounds like your fuel lines aren't maintaining pressure and the angle is allowing too much fuel to drain out of the lines. i have the same issue with and older f350 diesel if i let it sit a while and it doesn't get started.
