1987 Chevy R10 project truck has sat for extended time but would start every time till battery went dead and sat for another 3 - 4 months. Put new battery in and it cranks but wont start. Will run when I prime the carb but dies right away without prime. Has fuel in both tanks and I changed frame mount fuel filter, primed lines but cant seem to get fuel to carb??
Check the float on the carb is stuck shut not letting fuel in
ok so you have fuel to the carb or tbi sounds like you might have to check cranksensor or ignition control module
ok well the pump is in the tank and if it is not pumping we either dont have the correct voltage or the pump is bad answer me this if you pour gas in the top of throttle body does ti run?

yes, a 350. it didn't sit that long and will run with prime [during prime only], this is TBI, it seems more like no gas at all to the carb.
What do you recommend I soak the carb and parts in?
just after replacing the battery, added gas. It really seems like no gas to the carb. I've tried reverse priming the lines back to the frame mount filter and have gas on both side of filter just cant seem to get it drawn to the carb.
Where is the fuel pump and is there a way to check its output?
yes,i have added more info to requests for detail [above]
hello there: did you change the carb filter also if not do that. but usely you get water in gas tanks if it sets that long. so try that and let me know i can help you to get it running again. richard
In 87 some trucks had throttle body fuel injection. Does yours?
How long ago was the fuel put in the tanks? Have you checked to see if fuel is getting to the carb?
Is that a 350? I thought the '87 was fuel injected. Gasoline evaporates over time and leaves a varnish coating which clogs tiny spray nozzles, injectors, and other small openings. You need to run some fresh gas thru the injector(s) to dissolve the varnish. Add fresh premium gas to both tanks, and try priming it a few more times. Otherwise, you'll probably have to disassemble the carb/injectors to soak them.
