1998 hyundai elantra transmission slips, idles low

I have 1998 hyundai elantra with 100k on it. the engine light is on and the transmission slips sometime when i go from a stop. sometime when i try to accelerate or when im parking, it feels like its going to stall. the car also barely makes it up a steep hill. also, the idle goes up and down when the car is stopped at a light and when it's in drive. when i put it into neutral or park it gets better. once it gets going, it drives fine. its my first car and i paid only 1200 so i dont want to spend more money than needed. i took it to autozone and their meters said there is something wrong with the solenoid valve. any ideas what can be wrong, and if i should just drive it to the ground or get it fixed? thanks

Im guessing its a auto and not a stick either way get it fixed just driving it you ruined the band letting it slip like that either get a junkyard used 1 with a warranty and have someone put it in or have the one you have rebuild

Your transmission is slipping which can cause a huge amount of damage both to the car and your wallet. Take it in for service as soon as you can.

I have a 2000 hyundai elantra and the po734 cade is on and i do not know what i should do do you have any answers and also i am getting horible gas mileage

P0734 means that your transmission is slipping. This being the case, it is not surprising that the gas mileage is poor. You will need to have your transmission checked out professionally. Take it to a trustworthy transmission mechanic or to a dealer. Get a second opinion before you have any work done.

My 1998 Hyundai Elantra automatic will not go in reverse and slows down when driving forward...could somebody please tell me what's going on?

If you have not done so already, check the transmission fluid level. If you are low on fluid, there is a chance that adding fluid to the correct level may solve the problem. The fluid level should be checked with the car idling and the shift lever in neutral. There are two sets of Hi/Low marks on the transmission dipstick, one for Cold (car just started) and one for Hot (car running for 20 minutes or more). Use Hyundai recommended SPIII fluid. However, this does seem like a more serious transmission problem. Take the car to a qualified transmission mechanic.

2002 hyundai elantra gls . low idle speed, check engine light on, and doesn't shift out of low gear . ( 50,000 ) miles

Did the 'Check Engine' Light come ON? Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on. You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE and perhaps eventually fix the problem.

2003 Hyundai Elantra

NO. These models do not have warnings on the transmission failure. There is warnings only when the transmission encounters electrical component failure, overheating(some cars), low fluid. Usually the warning is the O/D flashing light, or a seperate transmission light. Hopefully this helps

NO POWER WHEN PRESSING THE GAS DOES NOT ACCELERATE ENGINE REVS HIGH

If manual transmission, the clutch is slipping. Check for pedal free play (about 1 inch or so). If automatic transmission, the fluid level may be low, or the transmission needs service.
