Usually a tune up consists of new spark plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor, fuel filter, air filter. But it still doesn't take care of the carbon build up in your engine, **** in your injectors, and sludge in your engine.

Here's what I reccomend: Purchase a bottle of seafoam. It's $13 and to clean out the c arbon in your engine you take off your break booster vaccum hose and **** up 1/3 of your seafoam. Then the other 1/3 of the bottle can be added to yuor gas tank to clean out the gas tank fuel lines and fuel injectors.
Lastly you can pour it in your crankcase but the oil will have to be changed 200km after.

There are a bunch of topics on the internet about this in way more detail. Please do look into it.

Also when you start up your car after putting the seafoam in your breakbooster line you will have to rev the engine so it breaks loose the carbon and when you rev it will smoke out of your exhaust and when you rev black carbon will pour out of your exhaust and you should get a smoother idle, accelation and will revive lost horse power.

Good luck and have fun

How do you know when it is time to have a tune-up

run the fault codes and if there are none reported and the vehicle is running fine then save your money. The ECM continually monitors the engine performance and self tunes the engine until the sensor parameters are exceeded which results in a fault code and a poor performing engine .

Will a exaust leak cause cause a sputter and poping out exaust and small flame at leak Engine runs smooth at idle no missfire or pop only flame and popping at acceleration help please car is a pontiac 3400

You may get some popping with a leaking exhaust but not common. Sounds like you're in need of a tune up. Spark plugs and new wires to start. The flames are due to unburnt fuel from mostly a miss fire. Try a simple tune up first, also make sure you have a new air filter to help the motor breathe easier and save money at the pumps. Be sure to check and replace any old/cracked vacuum lines as this will cause poor performance too. Hope this helps start you in the right direction.

1982 toyota pickup 22r rough idle/skipping

You may need a tune up- new plugs, filters, distributor cap and rotor, oil and filter. If your plug wires are brittle, cracked, or real, real old they should be replaced.
But before spending money, you might want a compression test to check the internal mechanical condition. Low compression in a cylinder from a burnt valve, or poorly seating valves, could cause rough idling and missing. That would have to be fixed first. You can buy a compression gauge for about $30 and do it yourself. Look on youtube or google for the correct procedure. It is really easy, and can help you decide if the engine needs repairs first, or if you can proceed with a tune up.
If you still have the rough idle, it could be in the carburetor. If your engine is worthy, consider a weber carburetor- lots of people with those engines use the weber 32-36. Better performance and economy than the stock carburetors, and they are sold with the adapter plate, gaskets, everything you need to install it on your intake. Kind of expensive, though. Last time I checked, they ran about $250. for new.

I have 2001 nissan maxima that loses power while driving

This means a lot of issues can be the result of poor loss and is a poor performance on the engine or drive. Sometimes a poor fuel tuning or an improper timing can cause this issue. Also a faulty fuel filter, fuel pressure at higher RPM , fault with auto advance which can be a vacuum loss or a friction on the brakes.
Also check for good spark, check the firing for good burnt indication of fuel and finally check exhaust clogging and the catalytic convertor.

1997 chevy silverado. 350 engine...vortec. trouble code po430....what does it mean? Please answer simply...I am a Woamn and i have already spent lots of money trying to get this fixed, but to no...

This code means that the catalytic converter on the passenger side of the truck is not working as well as it should. You probably need to have a new cat put in but be aware that if the engine is running poorly, this code can set because the cat gets overloaded. Often times people replace the cat because of this code, only to have the problem return because they did not fix the root cause of the cat failing. A tune-up will not necessarily solve the problem either. If the engine has a lot of internal wear and is burning oil, the new cat will fail prematurely because of too much fuel and oil coming out of the engine, through the exhaust system.
