How do i get the dash off to pull the old radio out

A Toyota Avalon radio is bolted in place in the dashboard in order to prevent theft. If you want to replace the radio with a more updated stereo or an in-dash DVD player, you'll need to unbolt the old radio. The bolts are concealed by the dashboard's trim panels, and there can be one or two other objects you'll need to temporarily remove as well.
Step 1 Shut off the power to the Avalon by disconnecting the negative battery cable.
Step 2 Pry off the central register panel above the radio on the dash. Use a trim stick or a flathead screwdriver with tape wrapped around the blade. With the register panel gone, pry off the dash trim panel that surrounds the radio. Disconnect the electrical connector to the clock.
Step 3 Remove the control panel for the air conditioner if it is blocking your way to the radio's mounting screws. Remove the front console trim over the air conditioning console, disconnect the mounting screws and remove the control panel.
Step 4 Disconnect the mounting screws to the radio using a small hex wrench. Put the screws aside in case you can use them to install the new stereo or other device. Pull the radio out of its space to find the electrical connector and antenna lead in the rear of the unit.
Unplug the electrical connector and antenna lead, and remove the radio. These connectors will be used with any new radio or stereo that you'll install in the old radio's place.

The only reason to have an electrical wire going to the antenna is for a motor that raises and lowers the antenna. The antenna cable to the radio is the only wire on the antenna.
To replace the antenna, you have to remove it from where it connects onto the car, then lift it out from there. The antenna and the cable cannot be separated, it's all one piece. You pull the cable off of the back of radio, and tie a strong string onto it, because when you lift out the antenna, the cable will be pulled out from under the dash and to wherever the antenna is situated and out that hole. Now tie the string onto (hope you had a long string, lol) the end of the cable on your new antenna and cable, and stick the end of the cable into the antenna mounting hole. Pull the string from under the dash by the radio and you will bring the cable back into the dash and where you can plug it into the old radio and listen to good old music again !

Locate and remove two (2) phillips screws that secure the top of the plastic panel that surrounds the radio. The plastic dash panel will pull off once the screws are removed as shown in the photo above.
The front of the radio is held in with two (2) 7mm bolt screws at the top of the radio. Remove the 2 bolt screws.
There is a hidden radio that secures the rear of the radio and is located under the radio. Pull the ashtray to its extended position. You will need to lay on your back or side and look behind the ashtray, up to the bottom of the radio.
Once the ashtray has been pull to its extended position, you should be able to locate and remove one (1) 7mm bolt screw as seen in the photo above.
Once all screws have been removed, the radio can then be removed. Pull firmly on the radio to remove it from the dash. The radio will most likely resist pulling from the dash. The antenna cable which plugs into the rear of the radio is very short and gives the radio resistance when trying to pull the radio out of the dash. Continue to pull firmly and the antenna cable will unplug itself as the radio is pulled from the dash.
Unplug (1) blue, (1) white, and (1) black wire harness connector(s) from the rear of the radio. There will also be wires extending from the rear of the radio with a plastic connector attached to the wires about 4 inches from the rear of the radio. Unplug this small connector. The radio can now be completely removed from the dash. Set it aside. You will need to remove the plastic brackets attached to the top and bottom of the GM radio. This will be shown in detail in the "Mount New Radio" section.

Hello, to remove the dash follow this steps:

1. Pry all the woods pieces off of by pulling them away from the dash.

2. Use two ford radio removal tools to remove the radio in the marquis. Place one tools inside two of the four holes in the front of the radio, and the other tools in the other two holes,Pull them away from each other and out of the dash board. Disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the stereo.

3. Remove the screw surrounding the radio using a Phillip head screwdriver. Do not forget to remove the two on the other side of the radio.

4. Remove all the screw around the instrument cluster using a Phillip head screwdriver.

5. Use the steering wheel tilt level to tilt the steering wheel all the way down .

6. Gently pry out the dash , making sure to disconnect the two wiring harness behind the dash board panel before pulling it out completely.

Did you check ALL the fuses? Is there anything else not working in the car (i.e. dome lights, cig lighter...)? Sometimes GM has TWO fuses to the radio...

it is in the fuse panel under the dash on drivers side. stick your head under and look straight up. when you pull the cover off, there should be a schematic telling you which fuse is for the radio.

The antenna is held down on the roof by 2 or 3 screws, and the antenna wire runs down the inside of the driver's side of the windshield pillar and comes out down by the fusebox, approx by the drivers knee area. When I changed mine, I took the lower plastic from the bottom of the driver's side dash off, so I could see what I was doing. It was only a few screws to get it off. Once I had the antenna lead loose from the back of my radio deck, I tied a piece of string to the end, then taped it in place, then pulled the old antenna out of the roof, pulling the string up with it. I attached the string to my new antenna, and used the string to pull it back down thru the windshield pillar. Fasten down the screws, connect it back to your radio, and you are good to go!

In the underside of the dash, under the steering wheel (a bit left of where the column meets the dash). It should have a label saying "FUSES". You press it, than pull it open.

You can call the dealer with your VIN# and the serial# from the radio, but that means you have to pull the radio first. Not ******* your vehicle. First pull out your cup holder on the dash as you would to use it. Second, turn on your key and put the vehicle in first gear, all the way down. Tilt your wheel all the way down. Dash panel will pull out easily, no screws just clips. Pull firmly, but not too hard, straight out all the way around the panel. BE CAREFUL NOT TO BREAK THE HAZZARD SWITCH. VERY EXPENSIVE. Push the hazzard switch down and gently pull the panel over it. Disconnect any wire harnesses on the radio side so that you can tilt the dash panel away from the radio. The radio will also just unclip from the dash. On either side you will see clips on the radio that you need to push straight down and then just pull straignt out. There you go. Good luck.

remove screws from dash face, remove dash face. two 10mm bolts hold stereo in place,remove bolts, gently pull stereo out. unplug stereo. install new stereo by reversing the directions
