The lights on my electric shift 4 wheel drive do not light up. I have pulled the switches out and there is power going to it.
It started as saying sevice 4wd then after a coupld of times of restarting the truck it would go off and go back to normal. The last time it would not go back off so I tried to reset the computer by disconnecting the negative cable on the batter. When I hooked it back up no lights on the 4wd selector came on and it doesn't say to service 4wd anymore. Any ideas? The repair manual that I have does not have a wiring schematic for electric 4wd so it is difficult for me to troubleshoot further.
Alot of times it's the electric shift motor on transfer case not working. With vehicle off key on press button and see if you hear it, next see if there is power down there when 4x4 is engaged. You haven't said exactly what your working on so if that's not the problem then you need to fill in some more info.

I have a 2005 Tahoe that recently had a similar problem. To resolve, I did the following.
This will cycle the fluid within your transfer case, and hopefully clean out the sensor. I did this, and my Service 4WD light went away after one day of normal driving. Hope this helps. Note: When I went into 4L the first go around, it had a hard time shifting due to non use. I changed between 4H and 4L a few times until it got smoother.
sound like problems in transfer case shift module.
