I have a 2001 ford taurus that turns over but wont start, its firing and getting fuel, and the crank sensor is working

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

just so you know,i dont want you to get mislead,i work on a lot of 99-2007 tauruses and this car DEFINATELY DOES NOT HAVE A TIMING BELT.IT has a CHAIN.CHECK THE fuel pressure WITH A GUAGE dont assume you have enough fuel just because you see gas coming out of the schrader valve.without having a service manual in front of me,you want to see 30-40 pounds roughly at idle.as for timing chains, nowadays i dont see them go bad very often- my 1987 buick century V-6 made it to 250K miles with the O.E. chain still good. i did use MOBIL 1 OIL.

Check timing. Belt may have jumped. Aim a timing light at the crank. If the mark jumps around, the belt/chain, has slipped, and will need to be replaced.

Motor wont start

do you hear the fuel pump working? and did you check the fuses? also check and see if the fuel cut of switch is on. it was typically located in the trunk by the hinges that hold th trunk or on the side but look in your owners manuel or google it. i would guess fuel pump in honesty.

I have a 2002 ford explorer 4x4 eddie bauer edition. i recently had the alternator changed and the next day it wont start. cranks just fine just wont fire. hubby is trying to tell me its the starter i say...

Taurus or Explorer? if it cranks, its not the starter.(obviosly) check fuel pressure first. If no pressure, be sure you have power at THE FUEL PUMP INERTIA SWITCH. its in the rf kick panel. be sure its not tripped, push in the red button and see if it starts. there are 2 wires, make sure power goes in and out.(both should be HOT, when cranking) If so, the pump is bad.

1992 Ford Taurus wagon not starting, but turns over

You might have a problem with your crank sensor or ignition. Remove spark plug wire and check for spark while turning engine over. When this happens unplug crank sensor near crank pulley then plug back in to see if it starts if so replace crank sensor.

2001 ford taurus wont start

It could be bad plugs, plug wires, a bad ground will do this as well. Check to see if it has the three main things.

Spark
Air
Fuel

Anther common problem is the crank shaft speed sensor. It will cause it to not spark and not start.

2001 ford taurus wont start and anti-theft light is blinking

make sure battery is fully charged and have tested for a weak cell and check out the alternator and the drive belt and if the car has over 40,000miles it needs a tune up plugs wires fuel filter and if all this fails have the timing checked and don't forget the crank sensor to have it checked
