Did you reset the system also sounds like you might be having ECM problems. I would try disconnecting the negative battery cable for a few minutes and reset the system and see if that helps. If that doesnt work I would have the computer checked out.

The engine seems to hesitate when trying to press the gas

Make sure that the fuel pressure regulator is correct, if the regulator is leaking gas than it cause this problem, also check the fuel filter, spark plug boots, throttle position sensor and mass air flow sensor.

Where are the O2 sensors? I found one directly behing the spark plugs on the back.

The O2 sensor (2 on V engines) are in the exhaust system pipes before the catalytic converter, the next sensor is the efficiency monitor for the catalytic converter system it looks like a O2 sensor but performs a much different function as far as testing goes. The codes you have follow.

P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1
What does this mean? In most cases it means the catalytic converter is worn out and that is sensed by the catalyst monitor I spoke of earlier.

P0102 - Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input
Faulty mass air flow sensor
- Dirty mass air flow sensor (located in the air intake hose to the engine from the air cleaner)
- Dirty air filter
- Mass air flow sensor harness is open or shorted
- Mass air flow sensor electrical circuit poor connection
- Intake air leaks

2004 x8j has an error code PO171

P0171 JAGUAR - System Too Lean ENGINE CYLINDER Bank 1 (only "V" engines (V6,V8 etc.) have more than one bank of cylinders.

Possible causes- Intake air leaks
- Faulty front heated oxygen sensor
- Ignition misfiring
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Lack of fuel
- Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor
- Incorrect Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose connection Tech notes If the P0171 is combined with the P0174 code, it's very likely that the problem is caused by an intake leak. If there are no intake leaks, the next step is to replaced the air filter and clean the air flow meter. If the problem persist the front oxygen (O2) sensor may need to be replaced.

2004 ford escape - feels like hesitation,or sputtering when acceleration, sometimes just random occurance, feel it sometimes while idling. Just had check engine lite come on, showed was o2 sensors, r

Try cleaning the Mass airflow sensor and replacing the air filter. You can buy the spray MAF sensor cleaner from any auto parts store for about $6.00, ask the parts guy how to use it.

My 1998 Ford Expedition stalls or boggs down when I accelerate. I've gotten atleast 3 different reasons. Mass air flow, O2 sensor or intake manifold leak. I don't want to spend money on all three.

DO YOU HAVE A SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT ON? IF SO YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE IT SCANNED TO READ ANY CODES. A MAF SENSOR CAN MAKE IT RUN LIKE THAT. YOU CAN TRY TO CLEAN IT WITH CARB. SPRAY.
