Sunroof will not close. The sunroof is stuck in the forward open position. The battery died when the roof was left open and now I cannot close the sunroof. I can hear the relay click when I push the buttons but the sunroof does not do any thing. I tried turn the key to accessories and holding the button forward for 20 seconds to reset positioning sensor but this has not worked. Any suggestion would help.

Can't say for sure about this particular model, but most vehicles with sunroofs have a manual crank for situations like this. Generally it is located forward of the sunroof on the roof of the interior of the car, sometimes under a panel or interior light. This at least will get the roof closed until the problem can be fixed. It may also allow the sun roof to realign itself and help the electric crank to start working again.

The power sunroof system consists of the following components:
• Sunroof module
• Sunroof switch

• Sunroof window
• Sunroof sunshade panel
• Power supply for the sunroof module: RAP 25 A

Override
The override function is used when needing to force a closing of the sunroof window. To override the system:
Turn ignition to ON.
Rotate the sunroof switch to the close position.
Press upward.
The sunroof switch data 6 circuit, or override circuit, will become grounded at the sunroof module. As long as the sunroof module sees this input, it will continue to slide the sunroof window to close, regardless of the other sunroof switch data circuits inputs.

2002 Jaguar XType Sun-roof one-touch operations reset

I had this issue and found the solution around, worth sharing and it takes 30 seconds: <br /> <span> <li>Press the sunroof switch forward to move the sliding roof panel into the tilted position.</li> <li>Release the sunroof switch.</li> <li>Press and hold the sunroof switch forward until the sliding roof panel moves slightly. This may take 30 seconds or more.</li> <li>Release the sunroof switch.</li> <li>Immediately press and hold the sunroof switch in the forward position. The sliding roof panel will move down and rearward to the open position, and then forward into the closed position. Do not release the sunroof switch until the sliding roof panel has stopped completely.</i></li> <li>Your sunroof panel should now be aligned.</li></span>

Sunroof will not close

If the motor is stuck, you can probably hold the switch to the forward position, and smack the roof. This may allow the motor to start working. I don't think there is any way to do it manually.

Sunroof stuck open...electronic switch clicks when pushed to open position...but nothing when trying to close...can this be manually closed or is there a breaker or something that can be reset?

The roof slides along a channel actuated by a coiled cord.

Both of the cords pass along a gear attached to the Sunroof motor which pulles the cord tooth by tooth.

There are two plastic wedges that drop into the plastic slides on the sunroof (the plastic slides are behind the more forward metal slides.)

The plastic slides control the tilt of the roof when moved independantly. The plastic wedges join them.

If the roof moves too far back, it is possible for the wedges to stick up and jam the roof open.

This should never happen, but could if the two micro switches on the sunroof motor assy fail to provide feedback to the controller indicating the roofs position.

Access to the Sunroof motor requires you to drop the headliner.

To drop the headliner, the plastic pillar shrouds need to be removed front and back, the seatbelt bolts in the middle secion need to be removed, the oh-**** handle, the front visors, and cabin lights.

3 bolts hold the motor up.

With the motor down you can try* to manually actuate the cords using a flat screwdriver, but move the left and right side evenly a tooth at a time.

Of course of the plastic wedges are jammed, it's not going to budge.

Hope the info is helpful. good luck!

BMW X 3 Panoramic sun roof initialization.

title says X5, but description says X3. i'll explain for an X5, but X3 with the pano should be the same. and i'll explain function of the roof, not reprogramming.

button is located on the panel at the top near the front & center windshield. its the switch on the far left on this panel. its a switch that not only toggles, but also slides forward & back.

with your finger in front of the button, slide it back & release. this will make the cover slide back and store revealing the sun roof. you know have 2 options (tilt the sunroof up or open the roof completely).

to tilt it up, press up on the rear of the button and release. the rear of both roofs will pop up. to close, push up and release the front of the button or slide the switch forward.

to slide it open completely, repeat what you did to open the protective cover (slide the switch from front to back). the roof will open completely and stow out of the way. to close, slide the switch forward and release. pano roof will now close.

to close the cover, slide the switch forward again.

neat trick: if you want to tilt the sunroof open without opening the protective cover, press up on the rear of the button (when the cover is closed) and release. the cover will separate in the middle exposing about a 2-3 inch mesh, then tilts the sunroof open. to close, push the button forward again.

also, if you are above a certain speed (can't remember what it is off hand) with the sunroof open or tilted, it will close automatically, then perform the neat trick on its own to keep air coming in.

one last trick: if you want to open the windows and sunroof from outside, press & hold the unlock button (forward button on the key) and you will see the windows go down, then the roof will open to vent. releasing the button will stop the motion of the windows & roof.

hope this answered what you were asking.

My sunroof has opened and now it won't close. Any clues?

You will have to remove the sunroof motor, and the sunroof glass. Then you can move the guide tracks seperately until they are in the closed position. Then you can put the glass and motor back in, remove the power source (fuse or disconnect wire harness) to prevent any accidental opening until you can get it fixed. Chances are that a guide track or cable is broken, this can be a costly fix. Do not take it to the dealership, they will only want to install a whole sunroof unit. Take it to a local shop that installs aftermarket sunroofs
