98 Mazda 626 overheating. Blew off one of the hoses on right side of radiator (near battery upper or lower hose?) I replacedthe hose. Engine still overheats very rapidly (from normal 5-10 minutes of idling to needle burried in 5 minutes of driving). Is the thermostat bad? Also coolant is barely bubbling (over if at all) from the resevoir cap when the gauge says it is extremely hot.

Okay, so now where is the thermostat located? How difficult is it to replace? Where can I find a diagram of the thermostat location? Can't find anywhere on google/yahoo.

Yes, this is most likely a thermostat problem.

As a basic explanation, the thermostat is the device which separates the hot coolant in the engine block from the cool coolant in your radiator. If it gets stuck closed, your radiator coolant will remain at near room temperature, while the coolant in your block (which is what your gauge reads) does not circulate and will skyrocket in temperature.

One of the best places to find (free) information about basic repairs to your vehicle is on a forum. This forum, for example:

    http://www.mazda626.net/index

specializes in your vehicle, and very well may have a tutorial or a thread based on cooling and/or thermostat replacement. If searching the internet fails, and your planning on keeping your vehicle for a while, consider investing in a Bentley manual.

It's either a bad thermostat or a leaking head gasket

Testimonial: "Thanks for the input. Car is not leaking any fluids though."

My 2002 mazda 626 was overheating. Replaced the radiator (cracked) and coolant tank (leaking). Still overheating. Its the thermostat or the water pump right? Which should I check first? Where how and what...

I would check the thermostat. It should be in the housing that the upper radiator hose connects to. I would take the thermostat and put it in a pan of water on a stove, if the thermostat doesn't start to open before the water begins a rolling boil, the thermostat is probably stuck closed.

2001 mazda 626 where is the thermostat so i can replace it i have the thermstat and the washer is it on the top or bottom of the car?

If you have a 4 cyl. it is located in the front of the motor, on the left hand side, right beneath the exhaust manifold..There is a Hose connected to it...Now if you have a V6, then it is located on the back of the motor, just follow that hose on the top right side of the radiator..you have to take the air filter, and the box out to get to it..

Where is the thermostat located in my 1995 mazda 626

The thermostat is located on the engine block, where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine. You'll see a large elbow-like component that is attached to the engine with 2 bolts.
Just follow that upper radiator hose and you got the location. When you remove that housing (elbow-like component), you'll see the thermostat.
Make sure you note which end of the thermostat is up and which end is down. Don't reverse the install.

Need to know how to change my thermostat on a 2002 mazda 626

The thermostat on the 2002 Mazda 626 2.5 liter V6 is located at the opposite end of the lower radiator hose (near the block). It is nestled between the air-cleaner assembly and the intake manifold (on the driver side). You have to first remove the air-cleaner housing (The top half has several things attached to it; you don't have to completely remove the top half - just sort of move it aside after it hans been unencumbered; the bottom half must be completely removed as this is the area you will be working in.) The thermostat housings' top half can then be ubolted from the bottom half but you can not remove it or pull it aside to gain access to the actual thermostat until you unbolt the ignition coil pack. Mazda uses a strange metal sleeve to protect the lower radiator hose (I assume that's what it's for). There are three bolts holding the pack on (if I remember correctly, two of them hold the sleeve in place as well). After you free the sleeve you can then move the thermostat housings' top half aside and pull the thermostat out. Good luck putting it all back together - it's sort of like a jigsaw puzzle. BTW this is by far the hardest thermo I've ever had to replace.
