Replacing brake light

Hi Edward-
The top brake light lens is held on with two size T25 Torx screws. You need a suitable size torx screw driver to remove (and again later replace the assembly) the two screws. Once the screws are removed (do not lose these), you can remove the entire lens assembly. You'll see the wires leading to the plastic bulb socket. The bulb socket twists off the assembly like a bayonet. Once the bulb socket is off, you'll be able to remove the bulb simply by pulling it straight out. Replace the bad bulb by inserting the new bulb and then reassemble your third brake light in the reverse order you removed it. Enjoy!

I have a 2005 GMC Envoy. Have tail lites but no brake lites. Third lite on top works whet brakes applied

Since the high mounted brake light works you know that the brake light switch is working. Now you need to check the brake light bulbs in the rear tail light assemblies. The brake lights are separate from the tail light (parking or running lights). There are two screws that hold the rear light assemblies in place.

How to replace LR2 Third Brake Light

The Freelander is Land Rover's entry-level crossover SUV. Unlike other Land Rover vehicles that use a traditional "truck," body-on-frame chassis, the Freelander is built on a unibody, front-wheel drive car chassis. The Freelander is sometimes known in the U.S. as the "LR2."

1 Purchase replacement bulb P21/5W, available at most auto parts stores and at any Land Rover
dealer.

2 Turn off engine and open rear cargo door.

3 Remove the two Torx screws from the side of the tail light assembly. Carefully pull the assembly
away and unplug the electrical harness.

4 Turn the assembly over to access the bulb modules. There are three separate bulb modules; the
top module should be the brake light.

5 Rotate the bulb module counterclockwise to release it from the tail light assembly. Push the bulb
down (into the module) and turn it counterclockwise to remove it from the module.

6 Insert the new bulb into the bulb module. Carefully push the bulb down and turn it clockwise.
Reinsert the bulb module into the tail light assembly and turn it clockwise.

7 Reconnect the electrical harness to the tail light assembly. Remount the tail light assembly and
replace the Torx screws.

Anyone know how to replace the third brake light on a 1999 windstar ?

Look on the inside of the liftgate and you'll spot a plastic trim panel/piece directly behind the High Mount brake light. Gently pry this piece off and you'll have access to the bulb and socket.

Cant remove the bulb from the inside

According to the service manual, you must remove the cloth package tray that the third brake light assembly is attached to. First unclip the electrical connector located directly underneath in the trunk. Then remove the five philips screws securing the tray to the rear body by folding down the rear seatbacks. The package tray must then be pried off-not easy.
