1997 ford contour wont start gets spark and fuel

Have you checked the valve timing?

Check for spark at any of the sparkplugs.Do you have spark?

Get somebody to help u one stand middle of bed and listen for a hum wile other turns ignition to accessory pos do not try to start it if u don't hear a hum fuel pump has gone out

If it acts like it's starved for fuel, it probably is related to that. I would check first though. If you have a carb, you can spray starter fluid inside and then crank it. If it tried to start, then it is fuel related. Probably a fuel pump, fuel filter, or fuel relay, or perhaps a fuse. If it doesn't start for a second, it could be many more things. If so, you should check your ignition system, spark plugs, wires, distributor, coils, ect. If your battery and starter are fine, start looking to see if your car is getting fuel. Hope this helps. my wife had the same problem with her car an i changed the o2 sensor an the sparkplugs and wires.so try that it should work.

I would first replace the fuel filter. If it still wont start check all your fuses. If still won't check your fuel pump.

try this: take a thick rag and plug the exhaust with the car idling(don't worry you won't hurt anything) does the noise change? if it does, you have an exhaust leak. otherwise let me know.

a speed sensor will prevent the trans from shifting if the odemeter isn't working because if the speed sensor is bad and the odemeter and speedometer isn't working the trans has no ideal what gear to be in

i would check the coil

Try to clean out the Idle Air Bypass valve with carb cleaner. They get dirty and stop working.
