The plastic round stopper most probably broke that is were the stoplight switch sits when not depressed easy fix find a washer small enough to block the hole were the original plastic stopper was making sure the washer aligns to the brake light switch and secure washer w/ zipties hope this helps.

You need a brake light stop switch. it is located on the brake pedal at the top. really easy to change out.

SOURCE: tail lghts/brake lights

Isn't that mysterious? It took me a few weeks to figure it out. Look carefully under the break pedal. There is this device called a "break light switch". I hope that helps.

On my 1991 Nissan pickup, the tail lights stay on even with ignition and light switch turned off. It's drained the battery so my only solution is to remove the bulbs. Any suggestions ?

Are you sure it is the tail lights, or could it be the brake lights? If it is the tail lights, the light switch should be replaced. If it is the brake lights, there is a switch operated by the brake pedal whitch could be stuck or otherwise inoperative and should be replaced.

Tail lights wont go off

firstly you need to make sure that they are the tail lights & not the brake lights I find it strange if it is the tail lights as the tail & parking lights are on the same circuit & they should all stay on, but if it is the stop lights(brake lights) it could be that the brake light switch is faulty & needs to be replaced or it may have come loose & needs to be adjusted.......hope this helps......cheers.

1999 Toyota Corolla Seca - hatchback. the tail

If you put your foot on the brake, the tail lights and parking lights will still come on. Possibly your brake is sticking. Check to see if it is and if it is put WD40 for a quick fix. See a tech for them to fix your brake alignment. Good Luck!

Tail and Breaklights stay on all of the time

check the brake light switch. its on the top of the brake pedal.

it may have fallen out of its holder, or has failed.

you know you use the brakes over 200 times a day in normal driving.

Brake lights dont work untill i turn the lights on, then stay on

Hi, are the tail lights and the brake lights in the same light unit?
If so, there is a possibility the bulbs are in the wrong way. If it is a stop/tail bulb then there are two locating pegs on the side of the metal part. If you look, one is higher than the other which has to locate into the correct slot in the holder.

Another possibility is the bulb is wrong, there are double and single contacts. Check the contact on the base of the bulb is the same as the contacts in the holder.

Tail light stays even when ignition switch is turned off.

Is it your tail lights or Brake lights? My 88 Couger had a brake switch that went bad and the Brake Lights stayed on.
