If th eoriginal belt broke you need an engine as the pistons bent some of the valves but hter are marks on the cam gears that line up with marks behind gears you can see them through holes in the gears then the cran has a notch that lines up with mark on the block

Timing problem we think?


Mark the timing belt as well with the marks on the crank and cam.
to make sure it is not slipping and staying in place during the install.
I hope your valves are not bent. If they are not and you checked the above and still the same, then and only then I would put the belt back the way it was with that tooth off.

wow no easy job ,really ,below is the setting for belt timing ,go to autozone libairy for full details ,no bs theres a lot to it good luck. or you can buy a manual that would be easer to keep going back to time and time again ,

Wont idle runs rough


sometimes when engine jumps time it can cause the valves to get bent because engine is does not fire in order like it should.

if is a H22a4 or h22 motor, u need to get the timing marks lined up then put the belt on, make shure it is a h22 bent and not a F22 SOHC belt

Timing belt went.


At highway speeds it may have bend some valves, is this a 4cyl engine or a v-6? this all depends on the mileage and the condition of the car, the cylinder heads would need to be removed and valves replaced plus a new belt and waterpump and timing belt pulleys, this is costly, if its a 4cyl it maybe worth tryying a belt and see what happens, that dont have to put it all back together they can run the engine with a new belt and if you got lucky then put it back together.but if its the v6 engine i would not try just junk it, sorry or replace engine if car is worth it.

How do you change a serpentine belt on a 2000 Alero?


Depending on the size of the motor the belt tesioner turns clockwise. find a wrench to put on the bolt of the pulley itself and turn it clockwise this will release the tension on the belt allowing you to pull it off the first available pulley. Just take it off that one pulley "Alternator, Power steering pump, Idler pulley whichever is closest and easiest to remove the belt off of go with that one. Unfortunately i was unable to find a belt diagram for you. There should be a diagram for you on under the hood this will tell you where to put the belt around each pulley. You do not have to hold the tensioner as you take the belt off each pulley after the first release it slowly. as you put the belt back on around each pulley leave the belt off that one pulley that u started with. Grab the tensioner again turn it clockwise as done before and put the belt on that one pulley release it and your done. Check each pulley to make sure the belt is on right if it is off by one groove it can and will throw the belt the first time you start the vehicle. then you would have to start the process all over again. I need the specs to set the timing or a how to instruction to set


put motor TDC on #1 which is the furthest away from the distributor take motor mount off and support the front of motor with a jack. #2 take off your drive belts power steering and ac etc. Now lower the jack down a little and take off valve cover and power steering pump,set aside and remember were your bolts go.#3 take off timing cover 10 mm bolts all around the out side of the cover take top off out the top and put a 3/4 socket on a impact and take the bolt out of the center of the crankshaft take the crank pully off and remove bottom part of timing cover out through the bottom raise or lower the jack as needed#4 now their is a back balance shaft bolt in the back of the motor its a bolt take the bolt out and put a screw driver through there to hold the balance shaft from turning and getting out of time note make sure it is the bolt behind the not the round bolt with the hex in it the bolt in the block directly behind that round bolt. Put key way pointing straight up on cam gear and crank gear do this before removing old timing belt or balance shaft belt the front balance shaft has a notch cut out on the shaft that runs the gear put it straight up.#5 loosen tensioner and take the belts off. Now put your timing belt and balance shaft belt back on make sure everything stays in time nothing moves.
