SOURCE: 06 Liberty light switch wiring

You usually have 2 wires off the brake switch.
With a test light you should have 12 volts (test light lit) on one wire.
The other wire will have 12 Volts or light the test light when you step on the brake pedal.
If there more than 2 wires, just check which wire has 12 volts when you step on the brake pedal.

Here is a picture of the brake light switch. Also at this point just buy a new connector and splice it on, much easier.

What is the cold wire in a 2013 Holden Colorado brake pedal

Wiring diagrams and colors change from one vehicle to another or over model years. If you don't have access to the detailed schematic, try to find the connector by the brake pedal under the driver side dash, or elsewhere at the back of the vehicle pull the plug that feeds brake lights (or a trailer plug) - use a circuit tester (cheap part, store purchase) and test each wire - the one that gives you power ONLY when pressing on the brakes should be the cold side wire. Another way would be to pull a rear light identify the brake light, see which is "ground" and which feeds current to the brake light. That current wire will usually have the same color stripe identification from front to rear.

OK 2000 Tahoe brake pedal switch which wire color is hot wire and witch wire color should feed power to brake light when you push pedal down. Also the colors at switch do not match color at bulb!

ok so unplug the thing and stick a voltmeter in it, the hot side is obvious-if neither side is hot then you know you need to start troubleshooting the circuit-I would start with the brake fuse.
