2003 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport FWD. Acceleration and braking

2003 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport FWD. 65,000 miles.

New front brakes/rotors..new back brakes.

Acceleration becomes sluggish on long trips, passenger side front and rear tires smell of hot rubber afterwards. Happens infrequently enough that we can't pin down the problem, and our mechanic says the brakes are not dragging. Doesn't happen on shorter trips. When the acceleration began acting up, I had to press the gas hard to keep it at 40.. suddenly then bursting after a bit into passing gear. applying the brakes after resulted in mushy brakes.

Also an occasional grinding/rattling sound coming from under the hood when shifting into reverse, though not every time. When it does, going into park and back into reverse seems to stop it.

Premature rear brakerotor failure

I have never had that issue in 50 years of doing brake work

You were given the dealership Dog & Pony Show as always

When you get a new vehicle the brakes are assembled dry at
the factory & rust on the train or car carrier

Like other vehicle parts they have to come apart, rust removed
& lube applied to all sliding surfaces & done at least once a year
on all vehicles

The same thing for spark plugs & trans fluid

30 days after you get it, you pull the plugs to gap them
& put anti-seize on them & change trans fluid to remove
the normal wear of bushings & debris you get when new

Broken front wheel stud 2003 grand caravan

jack up vehicle, remove tire. knock out old stud with a hammer and punch. put new stud in from back if need be. to draw it up tight.use a lug nut with something under it so when you tighten the nut it brings the stud into position. remove the nut you put on. and replace the tire. good-day! if the brakes and rotor are in the way. you will have to remove them to replace the wheel stud.

Replacing brakes on a 2007 dodge grand caravan se

Front brakes are pretty easy, just go to http://www.customtacos.com/tech/index.php?article=37 for step-by-step instructions with pictures. On the bolts that it tells you to remove, it says they are 17mm, on the caravan they will take a 12mm socket to remove (at least on my 2007 short wheel base SE). The only issue I have with this site is it does not tell you how to remove rotors, and I NEVER replace brake pads without having my rotors turned or replaced. after you have swung the caliper up like the instructions on the website tell you to, you'll notice the rotors are still held in place by the caliper mounting bracket. It is held on with two large bolts that bolt in from the back. If I remember right, they are a 3/4" or 19mm socket. If they've been on for a while (my first brake change was at 48,000 miles) then you will need WD40, a big socket wrench, and a lot of elbow grease to get those loose. Once that's free, you can easily remove the rotors. I would take them to Checker or another local auto parts store that turns rotors, they will let you know if they can be turned or if they need to be replaced. If you get new rotors, don't forget to clean them off with brake cleaner before installing them!!! They are coated with an anti-rust chemical that is very sticky and will smoke for miles and affect your braking. For rear brakes (assuming they are drums, if not, they will be the same as the front), there is a pretty good tutorial at http://trashcars.net/videos/1436/how-to-replace-rear-drum-brakes.html. You should also have your drums turned or replaced when you replace the rear brake shoes as well.

I was driving to work last night, I could smell something like rubber burning. Whe checking my tires. I seen nothing was wrong with them, but the smell was strong. Looking them over, I relized my rotors...

This is a good case for warranty repair. Often a noncovered part takes out a covered one and at least something is fixed free. Contact your salesperson first. Your car has been made for years and they know what is normal and not normal for it. It has been least than 11 months despite being over 12000 miles.

Can't find where/how to bleed back brakes 2000 dodge grand caravan

The problem isn't at your brake calipers. Your rotors have a slight warp to them causing your vibration when you stop.
