Question about 2004 Mercury Sable

2004 Mercury Sable heater blower smells like something burning. Smell of plastic one time or smells of electric wires burning.

you could have a short in the wire harness that runs up your steering column. i would check under the dash for worn,frayed or burnt wires immediately. you have a great potential for an electrical fire. good luck. please rate this solution

Depends on the sound that it makes when you turn the key over.

Clicking noise...usually the starter

If it sounds like its going to start, but doesnt, most likely the battery.

If you have replaced the battery recently, then its the alternator.

Sometimes there can be oil build up over the spark plugs so it doesnt get the spark to start.

Any type of burning smell can be a cause for concern. This could be a number of thing. Did they do an oil change when they had the car? It could be a leaking filter. I would not be shy about returning to the place where it was repaired and have it double checked. Don't forget you paid for this work and deserve to have it fixed properly. I hope this helps

the problem could be in the blower wheel or motor, is there a vibration with the blower on and grinding. i rec removing blower motor and inspecting that further. debris could be cought inside it or blower may need replacing. it may not be that bad of a repair $$.

its not a fuse if the blower motor works , you have a clogged or bad thermastat, bad water pump or your radiator heater core is clogged

Are you loosing radiator fluid. sometimes the heater core will rupture and you will smell burn odor. also check for strange rubbing sounds or screeching coming from the blower fan motor. or engine exhaust manifolds are hot when car is on, make sure nothing is leaning on them which will cause a burn odor. Any odor coming from outside will find it's way inside through the fresh air vents.

Could have been the resistor or the blower motor. It was probably a burning wire smell.
Check the blower motor for power and ground.

It could be your heater blower motor or the blower speed regulating reisitor.
Try different blower speeds, see if the smell goes away. Also if one or more speed setting don't work, it is more than likely it is the resistor, if no to the tests, it is more likely to be the blower motor.
Also check to see if the blower intake is blocked.

even though your reading 13.9 volts at battery at 2000rpms,
you need to load the alternator and battery to get a real reading,start car,put high beams,heater blower on high,and flashers on while in low gear,your going to have to have a friend help so you can test at battery with a multi meter.

Burt Toast Smell while running heater

This is caused by in most cases dry tree leaf getting particles into the heating duct through the air intake at the base of the windshield, this material contacts the red hot blower motor speed control resistor and burns, and yes it smells like burnt toast, in order to clean this stuff out u need to remove the blower motor, the material will be in the duct near it. I have seen this cause a fire, so get it checked and cleaned ASAP.
