First step, check your p/s fluid level. Make sure you got enough oil in there. Ps, these cars prefer a good dextron 3 oil over just normal ATF.
Do you get any noise when it goes stiff? If so it may require bleeding

You may have a restriction in the line or tank.

SOURCE: 2003 kia sedona

I had the same thing (hard to turn, especially in cold temps, wouldn't return to straight.....). Since the power steering fluid was full, I decided it had to be "gunk" in the fluid, so I took my '03 Kia Sedona in to have the power steering fluid flushed & filled (over $100 I think!).

No better. So I took it to another mechanic and he said that the "U-Bolt" had frozen up. He changed it (part was $117 and labor was 2 hours, for a total cost of $350ish) and it's good as new now!

SOURCE: power steering

Sounds like a bad steering rack & pinion assembly... is it only bad in one direction or both...?
If both then it's the rack assembly... Hope this helps...;-)

SOURCE: kia sedona 2004 steering wheel would not

sounds like either the power steering pump or the power steering rack is failing.

SOURCE: power steering is stiff some times on my kia

It might be a failing power steering rack as well...classic symptoms are very stiff when first starting vehicle or at a stoplight, then loosens up as rpms increase.

Hard stearing on my 2002 Kia Sedona

ck the PS fluid for a burnt smell. If so, flush the system & replace the pump. U also have to make sure your tires, chassis (alignment) , rack & pinion ( if equipped) are in good order too. Ck the PS fluid w the vehicle running. & if u flush it, make sure its full when done by cking it running.

I have noticed that at times my steering on my kia sedona lx 2004 gets stiff like the power steering is gone .. as well my coolant levels are fine but i have no heat nor is the a/c blowing cold air .. what...

Some modern cars have an electrically driven pump to supply high pressure oil to operate the power steering. However, most cars have an oil pump for the steering which is turned by a belt from the crankshaft pulley. If the belt is loose or slipping, heavy steering will be the result, especially noticable at low speeds. Check belt for tightness, and check oil level is not low, possibly due to a leak?
