There is a procedure for emergency EPB release, which is worth a try to make it go temporarily;
Turn off engine.

Select P if auto, apply foot brake.
Push and hold EPB switch/lever down.
Turn ignition on, wait for system check to cycle.
Start engine.
Release EPB switch/lever.
The EPB should have now released

SOURCE: x-type jaguar automatic (gear box fault)

I have a 2002 X type (2 litre. done 44000 miles), dash showed gear box problem, (red circle light up). I pulled out and turned the engine off. 5 minutes later turned the engine on. The engine running but the car would not drive either in drive or reverse. Turned the engine off again and on the car driving but not much power. The care is taken to the Jag. dealer and told is misfiring + some gear box faults. Suggesting to change some coils and see (cost about £200+). also possible need to change the gear box costing about £2500+. Please advice. Shall I go ahead with the repair? Should I part exchange.

SOURCE: problemn 1. Gear locked in

1. Now automatic transmission is stucked in "limp home" mode.
2. Even gears are not locked, transmission works in degradation mode.

You must access the Transmission Control Module (TCM) using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of vehicle, in order to pull out all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) memored. Then you will know if there are bad piece(s), and you will can replace bad piece(s) & repair damages. After that you will be able to erase all DTC from TCM memory, and reset TCM Electronic Control Unit.

How many miles on your car? Have you hand the transmission fluid drained, flushed and refilled ever 30,000 miles? I have mine done at the dealer and I have them use synthetic fluid, don't want the conventional stuff. I bought mine used and just under 2 weeks afterward the transmission quit pulling the car entirely. Transmission changed under warranty at Jaguar with a rebuilt unit. You DO NOT want a brand new transmission. The factory rebuilts have mods and enhancements that address failures the new ones don't have. You have to admit the thing died to begin with and SOMETHING needs to be tougher inside it. I don't take chances with mine, at $2700 for the rebuilt (minus labor) it's cheaper to have it serviced regularly.

What are the problems of a faulty transmission speed sensor in a 2002 land rover discovery 2 v gas?

run the fault codes and look for a faulty torque converter clutch solenoid /servo and a problem TCM unit. A service if not done in the last 60.000 miles would also help.

Discovery td5 auto. M & S warning lights come on and flash on dash. Loss of power therafter.

hi this problem is caused by a geatbox fault , something is causing the fault code to bring on your warning lights , in this mode the gearbox locks up and the tourqe converter takes up the drive , when you drive of it feels like you only have 3 gear , change the oil and filter in the box and make sure you have the correct level of oil in the box , very important , td5 auto 192k

4th gear not working on 1996 land rover dicovery, just revs up when you engage the 4th,all other gears o.k. anybody help.

A common fault on the early R380 gearboxes was the 4th gear baulk ring. The slot locating the synchro slipper wears and allows the baulk ring to rotate too far. This blocks the synchro assembly. It will be necessary to rebuild the gearbox, and replacing the baulk ring with a later type will eliminate this fault.

Take it in for a check of the computer module that controls transmission and for the engine ECM or PCM. Sounds like it could be a computer malfunction.

Land rover discovery 1994 gear selection

Hi there!

I'm a Land Rover owner myself - old school Series models.

This sounds like major gearbox trouble.

As the selector shafts are different for gears #2 and #4, I may be inclined to think there is an external problem around the base of the gearlever.

Probably cheaper to have a look here first.

If you've been offroading, it's possible you've managed to get a stone in there.

With the covers off the transmission, if there is no fault externally that you can see, then the gearbox may have to be stripped to find the obstruction.

You can always join one of the Landrover forums to assist on this and other matters.

Hope this helps you. If it does, please rate as Fixya! Thanks.
