The timing belt has jumped a tooth, you must d a compression test, then get a repair manual to check if the mechanical timing is of indicating a jumped tooth on the timing belt.
Sounds like you have some tight valves, releasing compression, have you recently adjusted the valves or have you had any valve train work done?...
would explain turning over real easy and the air popping noise you hear... is it through the exhaust or through the intake you hear this?
