I am having problem with security system on my 1999 vette wont start till it resets

Sometimes if you leave the key in the "on" position for 15 minutes the security system will relearn the key and reset.

in about 1999 the rules changed again. then again in 2007.

try disconnecting the battery for 5-10 minutes, reconnect an cycle the key on and off 3 times (not attemping to start) this resets the computer an should solve your problem

the light usually comes on when you turn on your key, BUT if the security light is flashing and the car wont start, it can be reset by turning on the key till all the lights come on and let it set for 10 minutes and after that turn the key off for 3 seconds and then it should start. hope this helps.

The TDM in the security system (VATS/PassKey) is having problems, it's typical on those cars and it will get worse till the car wont start anymore. You can find a great write-up here: http://newrockies.ca , it was the only thing that saved my Park Avenue.

do you have passkey security system they are problematic try this turn key to on position leave it on for 10 minutes turn to off and try to start sometimes it works if it does start this is not a fix just a band aid need to have it looked at try resetting the security system tells ya how in the owners manual

i had the same problem on my 98 sonoma. for some reason your passlock system did not recognise your key and went into security. you have to take it to a dealer or a shop with a computer and have them reset your passlock. if you have a buddy or know someone with a scan tool they may be able to do it to. i think the shop here charged $35. but there is no other way to fix it.

There is no way to disconnect the security system on your car but there is a way to reset it. Roll down the drivers side window and close the door. (Stay out of the car, this is why you roll down the window) Reach in and turn the key to the On position. Don't try to start it. Leave the key on for ten minutes. After ten minutes, reach in and turn the key off. Then try to start the car. This usually will reset the security system. I hope this is helpful.
