It seems the automatic idling lifter (sensor) once you switch on the a AC system has failed and thus at low idling the Ac compressor clutch gives in stopping the compressor to spin.
You have to check tht system out.

Although this is almost impossible to diagnose without access to the vehicle, it is quite common for the Mass Airflow Sensor to get dirty and cause this kind of issue. I would remove it and clean it. Cleaners are available at almost any automotive parts retailers.

High idle 1998 buick century after changing thermostat hooked it up to a dionostic computer and shot a couple codes still no luck

The codes might have been handy to have but I would be looking for a vacuum hose that was damaged or inadvertently detached. Losing vacuum will cause a high idle.

I have a problem with my 1988 Buick Century, 2.5L 4 cyl engine. I think it has to do with maybe the MAP sensor. Problem: when it's really cold outside, I can not get the engine to start unless I floor...

When cold start no heat then while driving, gauge tops out then drops, but blows cold. When raise RPMs it drops down to normal, then repeats. Once it warms up, it's will blow warm shortly then back cold...

would change top hose plus make sure there is a thermostat fitted

I have a 1998 buick century. The car is hard to start after it sits for a while. I have to give it gas before it start.

This can be caused from a drity throtlebody or bad idle air control valve, start by making sure the throtle is clean then have the idle air valve checked, when starting the valve should open to raise idle and drop down after it starts, it sounds like your doing what the valve should be doing, hope this helps.

1998 buick century is stalling when coming to a complete stop. What's the problem?

Try cleaning the throttle body and blade, sometimes carbon builds up in the throttle body and on the back of the blade and restricts air flow at idle.

Is the car idling faster than it has in the past when cold? The car is designed to idle a little faster than normal during warm up, to warm the engine quicker, and to keep it running. The fuel/air mix richens, (more fuel in the mix than normal), during start up conditions, and then as the engine warms, it should idle down to normal. Have you allowed it to continue its fast idle to see if it idles back down? Your post indicates that you turn it off and re-start to prompt the car to idle down. You have electronic fuel injection. The system adjusts to the prevalaint conditions to give you the perfect mix regardless of the condition it is presented with. It gathers input from a series of sensors that detect engine temp, outside temp, humidity and air pressure, to deliver the mix it needs. Often, when the mix is off, it is a result of a faulty sensor. This can be detected by running a fault code diagnostic check. You can have this performed for free at most national parts chains such as advance or auto zone. Other factors can cause an improper mix, such as dirty or clogged injectors, and/or a dirty air filter. Good Luck! I hope that you find this to be very helpful!
