Re: I hate using my seat belt and therefore I am looking...

you cant, its broken, why not fix it?
not easy,,,, its a complex electro mechanical system.
that only works from motors.
if you had taken it apart and looked first.
you'd have seen all this. omg, its a motor drive.
i hate it, , its slow, and wife has short legs.
takes 20second for my wk to adjust.... silly to a fault.
the full blown new jeep has memory on the seat(more silly)
you push person 1 button and it goes to your location.
slow, and silly every inch of the way.... it's a new world. (lazy)
This is something that should not be repaired, just replaced. Would hate for it to fail when you need it most. The retractor is also the part that locks the belt down in a crash.
it is possible a return spring failure in the bottom unit in which case the unit will have to be replaced . Best have it checked out at a service dealer centre
Most seat belts have to be retracted first before they will pull out for fasting. Try to push the seat belt back into the recoil unit (the unit that winds the belt up when not in use) and then pull it back out. There may be something binding the belt stopping it from backing into the recoil unit; look at the plastic trim around it, seat covers ect.)
AS seat belt operation is paramount safety it would be in you best intereste to have the unit replaced as something is faulty in the setting and retention area.
If you look under the seat there is a cable that connects to the grab handle and runs from the left to the right of the seat adjusters, if cable falls then only one side adjuster will release and u will not be able to move seat, usually up can reinstall the cable and it's good to go, if it broke u will have to replace it.. generally u can repair it without removing the seat.
hi there, here is what i have found for you, i hope it helps:
Look at where the drive belts are located on your Mitsubishi Galant. Depending on models, you may need to jack up the vehicle to access the bolts for the belts.
Find the bolt assembly for the belt. This bolt structure will be on or near the main component that the belt serves. Look at all of the pulleys around which the belt winds, and you will find a bolt system to adjust tension. For an alternator belt, the bolt system is by the alternator. For a power steering belt, look near the power steering pump.
Find the lock nut that holds the long adjustment bolt in place and use your wrench to loosen it. This is the bolt the loosens the belt tension so that you can remove it.
Turn the adjustment bolt. Turning the adjustment bolt moves the component either toward the engine in order to loosen belt tension, or away from the engine in order to tighten belt tension.
Slip off the old belt and install the new one, once the belt tension is released. Make sure the belt is correctly seated on all pulleys.
Turn the adjustment bolt the other way to bring the component away from the engine and add belt tension. Test the belt for correct tension by pressing on it and checking deflection.
Tighten the adjustment lock bolt and the pivot bolt, when the belt has the right tension.
look to see if you can adjust your seat belt pretensioner to better suit your height. look at the top of your seat belt- ( driver's side up and to the left of your left shoulder ) and see that you can very easily slide up or down your seat belt pretensioner. you are actually supposed to do this and even redo it if you ever readjustt your seat up or down or forward or backwards. believe it or not, your safety airbag light will come on automatically until you adjust your seat belt pretenioner in a way that the sensors read your seat belt to be safely set. naturally, if someone else drives the car he or she might have to readjust the seat belt pretensioner for the sensors to read them as being safely put. do this and the airbag warning light should go out.
