Replacing the crankshaft position sensor and rechecking timing would be a good place to start.

SOURCE: Gearbox fault of Jaguar S Type

unfortunately when that code, and that gear box fault light comes on, its pretty much game over for the transmission. It only a matter of time before performance of the transmission gets worse and worse. BUT that transmission is VERY easy to replace, i would check out a few trustworthy independent shops to give you a better price! I am usually a die-hard dealership, having been working at this jaguar land rover dealership for the last 2 years, but you are pretty much for sure going to be a cheaper price on the labor and like i said it is a pretty easy task.

My only precaution MAKE SURE IF YOU GETTING A USED TRANSMISSION THAT YOU GET SOME TYPE OF WARRANTY ON IT. Too many times have I seen customers loose thousands of dollars paying someone to put a used engine or transmission and have it fail almost right away.

SOURCE: x-type jaguar automatic (gear box fault)

I have a 2002 X type (2 litre. done 44000 miles), dash showed gear box problem, (red circle light up). I pulled out and turned the engine off. 5 minutes later turned the engine on. The engine running but the car would not drive either in drive or reverse. Turned the engine off again and on the car driving but not much power. The care is taken to the Jag. dealer and told is misfiring + some gear box faults. Suggesting to change some coils and see (cost about £200+). also possible need to change the gear box costing about £2500+. Please advice. Shall I go ahead with the repair? Should I part exchange.

Cut off while driving down road. Why won't it start?

best money saving idea is to run the fault codes
that will show if it is an ECM unit or something as simple as a faulty immobiliser unit
If the cam shaft is turning ,then the belt will be operational as they work or are broken
(the condition will determine the period before broken occurs)
check coil/s for voltage and if it has a distributor and cap check the cap for internal problems and the rotor button is tight and turning.

Goid day. I replaced my timing belt of Mazda 323. 16valve. 2001 model and now it does not spark. When starting. Please help. I took it to Novel ford agents garage and they stil strugling

check for wires connected to the crank position sensor. Run fault codes and check for ommobiliser
Mazda and ford festiva run the same systems so they should not be struggling to fix.

Engine stalls on Isuzu I-370 truck after warm up

The Cam sensor usually senses the position of the timing belt or timing chain gear and tells the computer when #1 cylinder is at top dead center. In other words, when #1 cylinder comes up. Crank sensor tells the computer when to fire the spark plugs in the rest of the cylinders. In other words, as the crank shaft goes around it tells the computer when each piston comes up so it can fire it's spark plug

so replace the crankshaft sensor

Car not driving properly-after auto transmission replacement

this garage is fobbing you off ,hope you havent paid for any work till you have test driven it .Take vehicle to a big jaguar main agent and see what they say because this type of thing does happen with these jags or so i have been told ,rang simon a mate with more jag experiance than me and he was un commital because anything can cause this problem and he seems to think that the ECU is up the swannie without a paddle ,but i have no experiance on this model as such ,i prefer a morris minor or a 2cv citreon to repair .best of british with it anyway ,and always remember a tip from this crafty cockney ,when you go to pick up a vehicle from a garage take the spare key and disappear in the car for a test drive before you pay for the repair .If it not right dont pay till its put right ,you are within your rights here ,if they block car in the second time because it didnt run right the first time and will not release the vehicle for a test drive then call the police .Dont take shoddy workmanship lying down ,i always tell customer to take car and try it for a day or two then come back to pay ,never had a knocker yet and a waiting list of customers. If i cannot fix a car i will not charge for it ,only the parts used

do you get into car, push key into ignition, then put seat belt on then turn key over???if you do it in this order should there still be a starting fault, could be a preheater going south....the car is fitted with automatic preheaters, they start work when you close the drivers door.(some toyota dealers dont know this)

Cam position sensor fault indicated on computer diagnostics .Timing chain jumped will this have caused valve damage.Vehicle is a civic type r on 2002

With Vtech motors, if the timing belt jumps to much yes you will get valve/piston damage. This type of damage is usually very noticable (knocking, loud head noise, no start) Best thing to do if no damage is noticed have the belt adjusted back into timing. jumping one rib maybe 2 might not have enough to cause damage my prelude jumped and didn't have a problem
