u1706 (code 7 means trans errors)the banging is not any kind of good news. CVT boxes love to fail like that
check levels yet? ATF trans fluid levels?
do not over fill the a/t box. ever. do not guess how.
and never done like any engine, check.

P1706 , is high vehicle speed observed in park , this is usually a false reading, clear the code and test drive the vehicle and see if the code returns.

OD clutches are worn out. Transmission rebuild. You can replace the clutches your self. But a shop is a complete rebuild. if you need to save up for it. Turn the OD off if you have a button for it. You have to do this every time your start the vehicle. Only do about 50 MPH.

on most casrs, and For sure OLD cars. 90s

what is TCM tha that is the tranny brain.
(it shifts the tranny for you)
what we do is scan, it. in most cases its a jumper wire on a diagnostic connector, and it flashes out DTC error codes.
this is covered in the FSM, book. (factory service manual)

the OD lamp on most cars blink when there are errors.
what everyone does is plug in the scan tool and see the DTC codes.
my guess your finger trick fools the TCM .
for a while, and means nothing.
TCM are easy to fool ,its just a tiny microcomputer.
TCM is tranny shift brain.
why not connect the OBD2 scan tool to the DLC and see the Px7xxx codes spit out and then look them up in the FSM for how to diagnose them.
or get it fixed

Blinking OD light indicates trans issue, have trans codes pulled, this will give you an idea of what is going on.

Got a book to your vehicle? Sounds like a sensor or switch either on the engine or transmission. In your book look at any switch or sensor associated with the 1706 code. Usually, when a code is thrown the code is meant to narrow down possible problems. Sometimes in the code reader book there will be some given parts associated with a specific code. However, to me--this sounds like a transmission shift module or throttle rpm communication problem.
