Any advise would be more than welcome. My dispatch has a 1.9 hdi motor, it seems a bit thirsty and thows out black smoke under acceleration. it has 150 k on the clock.
Try blanking off the EGR valve where it mounts on the exhaust manifild, they dont do much usefull but are unreliable and leak ehaist gasses into the inlet, also they take pressure off the torbo leading to over fuelling.

You could possibly have a boost leak , split pipe, egr stuck open .

SOURCE: thick white smoke coming from exhaust
I would think this will be a blown turbo.
These are fed by a small oil pipe and if the unit overheats (due to wear) - this oil fill feed directly into either the inlet manifold - or the outlet - exhaust.
If it is spilling oil into the hot exhaust - you will get a thick white fog. You can confirm this by placing a clear glass bottle or jar in the exhaust stream - and see if it gets a thick coating of oil on it. If it evaporates - it's water, if not - or feels oily - new turbo or overhaul.
Best get is sortd sooner rather than later - as you may be able to save most of it for an overhaul rather than scrap it if badly worn.

SOURCE: my citroen relay 2.2 has a misfire and thows out
There are three type's of smoke, 1 white smoke water blown head gasket. 2 black to much fuel not enough air running rich. 3 blue burning oil, check your spark plugs if fowl with oil, need to do a wet and try cylinder compression test if that check's out good, more then likely you have bad valve seal's or oil drain hole's under valve cover are clogged, remove valve cover and with long screw driver unclogged drain hole's. Hope this was very helpful, good luk

SOURCE: thick oil, blue smoke from exhaust

SOURCE: its blowing white smoke from exhaust
If the smoke is white in color, has a sweet scent and deposits moisture (face the palm of your hand about 3 inches back from the exhaust tip with the engine running for a few seconds then check your hand for moisture) then you are burning coolant. If it is being burned and exiting out the exhaust, you more than likely have a head gasket leak so be cautious of the engine temperature because the car will possibly overheat. If you look closely at the smoke and if it has a blue tint in the white then you are burning oil which could be leaking from the piston rings. Further inspection would be necessary in both cases. It is very important to correct either issue immediately due to the severity of the possible outcomes that can destroy the engine and leave you stranded and car less to name a few.

I have a citroen dispatch 2.0l hdi. I have black smoke upon acceleration. I am lead to believe it is cranck case vapor that has not been filtered properly in the engine top breather filter and is being pushed back into the engine through the turbo. any views? I am thinking of putting on my own oil catcher filter between the top outlet and the air intake after the air filter?? cost would be about £20. new original filter at top[ of engine where the rocker cover would normaly be is £500.. no thanks. black smoke for now..
