My cirgerette lighter in my 1988 cutlass ciera oldmobile doesnt work i was looking to fix it myself but i dont know what is wrong with it...what are some things i can do to try and fix it??

The lighter has a resistance coil similar to electric room heaters. There is a coil of wire which gets red hot when current is made to flow through it. First ensure that current is available in the lighter receptacle by a line tester or a simple bulb tester. If the bulb lights up, means either the push button for the assembly are not getting the leads contact point which could be deposition of salts and cleaning it should suffice. The other thing that that is critical is the coil itself. If the coil is not continuous, i.e. has a break, then replace the coil ..........................sodeep
