I have an 01 Pontiac Azteca the problem is everytime I put the car in gear it shuts the dash lights and radio light off, any idea what could cause this?

A bad or lose ground ! Checking a wiring diagram would show if these thing's share a common ground . Transmission , instrument cluster lighting an the radio lights up with the instrument cluster . You can go onto youtube an check out videos on how to read a wiring diagram , how to do voltage drop testing , basic automotive electrical circuit testing . Then you could go to http://bbbind.com/free_tsb.html free wiring diagrams an test the instrument panel back lighting circuits ! You will need a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter an you will more then likely need to take parts of your instrument panel apart . Your probably better off taking your vehicle to a qualified repair shop .

1998 chevy cavalier where is the BCM (body control module) located?

You have no idea what your messing with . Theft light on , DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored . Before you start replacing BCM an making matters worse ,do yourself a favor an take it to a qualified repair shop .
The powertrain control module (PCM) communicates with the instrument cluster using serial data over the UART serial data bus, CKT 800. When the instrument cluster determines a Pass Theft condition, the instrument cluster sends a coded password to the PCM. When the instrument cluster receives the correct password, the PCM enables the fuel injection system in order to allow the vehicle to operate normally. The PCM may allow the vehicle to start and stall quickly during a failed theft condition.

The Passlock™ lock cylinder is a locking cylinder that turns a rotating magnet past a stationary hall effect sensor. The rotating magnet creates a resistance code (R-Code) that the cylinder sends to the instrument cluster. The Passlock™ lock cylinder interfaces with the instrument cluster through a 3 wire connection. The 3 wires have the following functions:
• Power
• Ground
• Data

You will have to have the cluster repaired. If you are handy, you can take the cluster out yourself. There a number of vendors on Ebay who repair clusters.

The instrument panel has an internal short.
This is very common failure with the instrument cluster. You need to take to the dealer for repairs.

Back up lights ,instrument panel

My reverse lights went out as well on my 98. There is a sensor that engages the backup lights when the car is put in reverse. It is located under the battery and it is a pain to get to, but we were able to locate it and correct the sensor where it would engage the reverse lights. This is likely the cause of your problem as well. You will probably need a dodge neon repair manual if you don't have one, if you want to locate the sensor yourself, or better yet, just let a mechanic pull the battery and do all the boring stuff for you. I would suspect the charges would be nominal. As far as your instrument panel, that happened to me as well. I pulled the dash off and removed the entire instrument panel and cleaned all the connections with electrical contact cleaner, available at auto parts store. This corrected my problems with the instrument panel. I can also highly recommend not whacking your dashboard when your instrument panel doesn't work, as it can cause your car to completely shut off! Learned that one the hard way! Hope this helps.
