Hi ateliergab,

thank you for using fixya.

the code is all about over boost, try resetting the ECU by removing the battery terminals and touchingthe positive lead(red wire) to the negative battery post. It mightspark a little, this is just the capacitors discharging, resetting yourECU and starting over. It's like restarting your personal computer

else, you may want to refer to the link below for more information.

Have you checked the PCV system?? If its stuck in the closed position then you will lack power and turbo boost. A vehicle needs 3 things to make it run proper; FUEL,FIRE and AIR. Try that and see if it helps.

I have a 2002 vw jetta tdi diesel, the engine lite keeps coming on usually on a hill, but not always. sometimes it goes ou. i hooked up a code reader and code po234, overboost came up. what do I need to...

Boost is controlled by the N75 solenoid with vac' hoses to the vane controller built into the turbo.

When light comes on it indicates too much boost and will reduce fuel delivery to reduce power.
A '' key off/key on'' cycle will reset it if you on the road.

When an over boost occurs it is best to first change the N75 Solenoid Valve and or check the hoses from and to it for displacement or splits.

Before removing the valve, make a note of where the hoses fit.

Common component failure.

Don't know much about VW but if it's fine, and it doesn't happen again I wouldn't worry about it. If it does try resetting the ECU by removing the battery terminals and touching the positive lead(red wire) to the negative battery post. It might spark a little, this is just the capacitors discharging, resetting your ECU and starting over. It's like restarting your personal computer
