The pressure switch on the master cylinder has nothing to do with the cruise control . The pressure switch as you call it is not a pressure switch at all . Brake fluid level sensor . The brake switch is under the dash on top of the brake pedal linkage (arm) .
Speed Control The vehicle speed control consists of the following components:

  • speed control servo (9C735)
  • speed control actuator cable (9A825)
  • speed control indicator lamp
  • speed control actuator switches (9D743)
  • brake pedal position (BPP) switch (13480)
  • deactivator switch
  • anti-lock brake control module (2C018)
  • clutch pedal position (CPP) switch
  • Self-Test Diagnostics
WARNING: This test is a key on engine off (KOEO) test only that is conducted in PARK only with parking brake fully engaged.
    • Enter Self-Test Diagnostics by depressing the speed control OFF switch while turning the ignition key ON, making sure the engine does not start and is not running. The speed control indicator lamp on the instrument panel will flash once to indicate that the speed control module entered the diagnostic mode.
NOTE: Five additional flashes at this point indicate a defective speed control servo. Release the OFF switch.
    • Release the OFF switch.
    • NOTE: If the ON switch is not pressed within five seconds after entering the diagnostic mode, the module times out and the procedure must be started over.
Press the remaining switches in this sequence: ON, RSM (resume), CST (coast), and SET/ACCEL. The speed control indicator lamp will flash as each switch is pressed. Press each switch in the sequence immediately after the light goes out for the previous switch.
    • A lamp flash with the last button (SET/ACCEL) indicates that the STATIC test passed. If the lamp does not flash with the last button and there are no additional flashes of the lamp, the switch is defective. If the lamp does not flash with the last button, and additional flashes occur, follow the chart below for trouble codes:
      • Two flashes - Brake pedal position (BPP) switch is defective, circuit is defective, or brake pedal is applied; clutch pedal position (CPP) switch is defective, circuit is defective, or clutch pedal is applied.
      • Three flashes - Brake deactivation switch is open or circuit is defective.
      • Four flashes - Vehicle speed signal is out of range or circuit is defective.
    • Immediately after the static test has passed, the speed servo will then carry out a dynamic test automatically by actuating the throttle lever from 1mm to 10 mm of travel from the idle position. During the dynamic throttle pull, observe the throttle movement to witness any binding or sticking of actuator cable, correct connection of actuator cable to throttle lever, and make sure the throttle returns back to idle position. If incorrect connection and/or binding or sticking of actuator is observed, go to the Symptom Chart. If dynamic pull at the throttle body is observed, Go To Pinpoint Test A .
    • Return the ignition switch to the OFF position and proceed to the Symptom Chart.

SOURCE: How to I disable the airbag on my 2004 Ford

Remove RCM fuse from dash panel fuse box. Fuse F2.10 10 amps. Turn key onfor 30 seconds and see that Air Bag light is lit. Now disconnect battery negative cable for 1 minute, leave disconnected while service is done. now the air bag is disabled. To repower the system turn key on, insert fuse. connect battery, now turn key off for 10 seconds, then turn key on and watch the air bag light. it should go on then after the air bag module is happy that everything is ok, it will turn off.

Cruise control no longer works

Have the brake pressure switch tested at your local auto store. It is mounted at the base of the brake master cylinder. Just loosen it with a 9/16 wrench, take it out, this is what was wrong with my 2002 explorer. I guess this problem is very common on these when the cruise control goes.

2004 ford explorer ABS light on, cruise control quit working. Problem?

THERE IS A BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH MOUNTED ON THE MASTER CYLINDER. IF THE ABS LIGHT IS ON AND THE CRUISE CONTROL IS INOP. THE SWITCH OR WIRING TO THE SWITCH IS BAD. THERE SHOULD BE VOLTAGE IN AND OUT OF THE SWITCH IF ONLY POWER IN AND NO POWER OUT THE SWITCH IS BAD. ALSO CHECK FUSE #45 IN THE UNDER HOOD FUSE BOX TO SEE IF ITS GOOD. HOPE THIS HELPS.

What should it cost to get cruise control fixed

depends on the cause that it is not working. the cruise control switches in the steering wheel send signals to the ECM and theECM sends signals to the cruise control servo.so there is a wide range of what it would to fix it. the cheapest and usually the most common failure is the brake pressure switch located on the brake master cylinder. it is the switch that FORD had the recall on to install a new wiring pigtail because the switch would short out and cause a fire. the switch starts to leak brake fluid and shorts out and also will not allow the cruise to work.

Cruise control not working.. 2002 expedition 5.4 lt

There is a pressure switch in the front of the Master Cylinder, I believe if you change it that may fix your problem. This is a starting point, not the only solution, There is a switch located by the brake light switch that could not be working, This switch can also be one in the same as the stoplight switch. Fuses is anothere option. Because of where I work I tend to overtroubleshoot. But the switch in front of the master Cylinder is a common problem.
In our computer it is a cruise control pressure switch.

The speed control no longer engages, I did checked the fuse and it's ok. The on/off cruise switch on the left side of the steering wheel does not luminate when the lights are turned on. Could it be the...

Some Fords have a pressure switch (it's round) on the end of the master cylinder for the brakes. Disconnect that switch for test purposes only. Now take it for a test drive does the cruise lock on now? If so that switch is bad. KEEP IN MIND the cruise will not kick off, when you touch the brake with that switch disconnected, DO NOT continue to drive it like that. Turn the cruise off with the "OFF" button.

97 explorer cruise will not go off with a brake tap. Will go off by turning off. Go off momentarily then back on.

It sounds like your cruise module is bad because there are two safety systems one is your brake switch on the pedel and a pressure censor on your master cylinder that shuts down your cruise control . Its hard to beleave both would be bad which leads me to beleave your cruise control module has went haywire .

2004 ford explorer cruise control drops out - working when first starting out then goes away - may become operating at times later ?

Most common is the pressure switch on the master cylinder. If it is also leaking brake fluid, now is the time to get it replaced free at a Ford Dealer.

2003 Ford Explorer Cruise Control

Check the speed control deactivation switch on the master cylinder. disconnect and use a jumper wire to connect the wires together. If the cruise works it's the switch.
