My mercedes e320 is reading 12 volts on the 5 volt ref at all my sensors is that normal?

Use a needle such as a sewing needle, stick it into each wire, and use your voltmeter from there.

No need for color codes....

all your sensors run off the 5 volt ref. so you will have to trace your wiring harness from the pcm\ecm all the way out under the hood to locate the broken or pinched wire.

Generally the standard voltage should be 13.5 to 15.5 depending on the load that is being put on the vehicle and age of the battery an older battery may require more voltage to charge. Unless the voltage drops below 13 you are probably ok.

Hello! When you read +5 volts at the Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS) tell me where the meter leads were connected....If you had the (+) probe on the Yellow wire at the CTS; Where was the (-) probe connected? did you connect it to the Black wire in the CTS connector? Reason I'm asking is this; In the world of +5 sensor voltage, ground is very important...If chassis ground is even slightly resistive, 5 volt sensors will malfunction...The Camero has some years on it and corroded or rusted ground straps are common...The 6.8 volt reading with the relay unplugged is normal because the PCM is reacting to the CTS input; dropping the voltage to the relay, telling it not to pull because it thinks the engine is cold...

Leave the connector in-place on the CTS...Push the points of two safety pins into the rear of the CTS connector...One into the Black wire and the other into the Yellow...Set meter to read 5 volts...On a cold engine you must read +5 volts...On an engine at operating temperature you must read less than 2 volts...The CTS drops voltage as temperature rises...send a comment...Guru...Saailer

Only three wire's are for the MAF sensor , other two are for the IAT - intake air temp sensor . Pin # 3 - 4.14 volt's ? Check at PCM connector , read the same ? disconnect that connector from the PCM - does it read 5 volt's or the same . Before condemning the computer . Short on the wire , maybe . disconnect all the other sensors that share that five volt ref. circuit , does it come back 5 volt's . Where are you seeing this voltage ?

2008 impala no tach signal to pcm

DTC P0651: 5-Volt Reference 2 Circuit
You have a bad sensor or a short on the five ref. circuit .
The 5-volt reference 2 buss provides 5 volts to the following sensors:
?€¢
The APP sensor 1

?€¢
The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor

?€¢
The throttle position (TP) sensor 1 and 2

?€¢
The brake booster vacuum sensor

A bad sensor or short on the five volt ref. circuit will bring down the PCM and you will have a no start . I would pull the connectors off each of these sensors listed above to see if five volt ref. comes back to five volts . Well first check five volt ref at easiest sensor to get to . watch this video , he explains better !

What would cause only 2.5 volts being supplied to TPS at the reference wire? What would cause oil light to come on and car going into limp-in mode after OBDll scanner was used.

The PCM supply's the five volt reference . Is there five volts at the PCM on that gray wire , T - pin that wire at the PCM connector . If no 5 volt ref. there PCM is bad ! Provided one of the other sensors on the 5 volt ref. circuit isn't pulling it down ! Check pin's 4 & 5 in the DLC connector ,these are ground circuits . One is sensor ground an other is body ground . Your vehicle has two 5 five ref. circuits A & B . What type scan tool did you use ? Your 5 volt ref. circuit inside the engine computer is shorted because of your code reader .

Turns over wont start

Security light lit on the dash ? You say new coil pack , but is there spark ? Are the injectors turning on ? (squirting fuel ) Is there 5volt reference voltage at the sensors that are suppose to have it ? A shorted sensor can bring down the reference circuit in the PCM causing a crank - no start .
The powertrain control module (PCM) can supply 5 volts or 12 volts to the various sensors or switches. This is done through pull-up resistors to the regulated power supplies within the control module. In some cases, even an ordinary shop voltmeter will not give an accurate reading because the resistance is too low. Therefore, a DMM with at least 10 megaohms input impedance is required in order to ensure accurate voltage readings.
The PCM controls the output circuits by controlling the ground or the power feed circuit through the transistors or a device called an output driver module.
The engine coolant temp. sensor , fuel tank pressure sensor , MAP sensor .EGR valve , A/C refrigerant pressure sensor . The TPS sensors an the APP - accelerator pedal position sensors etc.. Any one of these sensors being shorted internally will bring the 5volt ref. circuit down , shutting down the PCM . Find one of these sensors an test for 5volts on the ref. circuit . If less then 5volts disconnect each sensor till you see 5volts on your volt meter .Then replace that sensor.

You can't just swap around parts, you must perform actual electrical testing of the brake light circuit to do this use a Digital volt ohm meter (DVOM) to check and see if you have 12 volts at the socket when the brake is pressed, if you do show 12 volts then you need to check the ground wire connection, use an ohm meter and check the ground wire to the socket, should read less than 3 ohms from the ground to the chassis sheet metal, clean and repair as needed to restore ground if a problem is found. Brake lights can be on different fuses, one for left and one for right, check the owners manual for location of the brake light fuses, test them with an OHM meter, they can look ok and be open.

Holden jackaroo 3.2 v6 petrol ,my spedo not working and chek engine light is on what is the problem and how to fixed

your check engine lamp is probably on because the vehicles computer is not receiving a vehicle speed signal, because your speedo is not working. You need to check the sensor on the gearbox and the head unit in the dash cluster. The gearbox sensor has three wires, one is power to the sensor and should read 12volts with ignition on (but engine off), a second wire is the earth for the sensor and should read 0volts and the third is the signal wire which can read anything from 5 to 12 volts. This signal should jump between zero volts and the signal voltage (5 to 12 volts) when the gearbox is rotated by turning a rear wheel (with the other wheels chocked to prevent the vehicle moving..and rotate the wheel by hand as some of these vehicles have a limited slip differential which can cause serious accidents if you try this with the engine turning the wheels...so don't). If the sensor is not getting 12 volts, check fuses and harness connections, if the signal voltage is missing check the head unit as this comes from the head unit to the sensor. If the signal voltage does not fluctuate when the wheels are rotated, or stays at zero volts, suspect the sensor.
