What are my timing marks on my 1.6l biesel rabbit and were cen I git pics so I cen see how to do it

Step 1 torque 20Nm . Step 2 torque 45?

most static settings are 10 degrees btdc
timing lights will be at the 10 degree btdc mark
the workshop manual will have the manufacturers specs but timing can be changed to suit the octane rating of the fuel used but even that is limited to one or 2 degrees either side of the 10

The sonata has a 16 valve machine and works with a timing belt and not a timing chain. if the belt snaps it will bend the valves. not all the valves but some of them. a secondhand top with valves shouldn't be expensive. I would change all the valves. sometimes a valve cen bend so minimal it can't be picked up by the eye. you don't want take the top off again. it's a fairly simple machine. a mechanic should help you with the timing once you're done. good luck

If you've just had the instument changed then its probable that the connector has come loose and will have to be re-connected. It could also be that the instument has failed. Take it back to the mechanic who changed the old one. This assumes that the car drives ok and all the fluids are topped up and ok.

Align the mark on the crank sprocket with the edge of the intermediate pulley, and the cam sprocket mark with the top right edge of the valve cover. Be aware that as you tension the belt that the cam sprocket will move a few degrees, so allow for this when setting them up! It's tricky so be sure they are aligned properly by rotating the engine through 2 complete revolutions by hand and recheck the alignment. More than 1 sprocket tooth off and engine will run poorly and have little power... Hope this helps...;-)
