Question about 2000 Ford Windstar

How to find rear backup light connection inside Ford 2000 Windstar lift gate for installation of rear view camera.

My wireless camera transmitter worked when pos and neg power wires were tapped with the reverse lamp wires near the bulb socket- check polarity w/ meter- and spliced w/ wire nuts. The path is long though from the liftgate where tha camera and transmitter are, so I needed to splice about 3 feet more wire to reach near the reverse bulb socket. If your radio has a display and needs a 'reverse' trigger like mine did, it is triggered by 12 volts. I just drilled a hole in the black bezel to the left of the radio, and put an spst switch between the orange 'reverse' wire and the red 'acc' wire (both from the radio) this way it can at least be triggered manually, otherwise you'll have to hunt to find the reverse signal from another location, assuming it can be done.

A double din radio did not fit in my van, so I got a single din with folding screen hanging down and made up the difference with a block of wood, which can't be seen w/ display in place...also saw a single din w/ smaller display, probably much faster to install..

The "reversing lamps" as Ford calls them are located at the bottom of the rear light assemblies - not in the lift gate. When your Windstar is shifted into reverse, output from the PCM is applied to the rear electronics module (REM) to ground the lamps and turn them on. In short, if you need + 12 volts to turn on the camera, you will have to find it elsewhere. This is a common problem encountered when trying to install cameras in older cars.

SOURCE: rear window on 1986 ford bronco

I had the same problem with mine and I drilled out the rivets holding the motor in. Have someone hold the window up when you do this so it don't fall. after you get it drilled and you can let it down you should be able to remove the window from the track through the panel. It has been a while since i had done it but the window motor was very reasonable.... make sure you are getting power to the motor before going through all of this because you might be able to put power to it and make it roll down.

SOURCE: lift gate wont open

OK, this minor collision may have shifted the actual clip and latch assembly. You may have to totally disassemble the latch assembly to release this lift gate.

Any kind of major or minor shifting of the lift gate lock latch assembly can cause misalignment that will jam this delicate precise locking mechanism.

Rear wiper motor runs all the time when connected.Could it be multi- switch or wiring shorted?

It's getting a constant 12 volts. Disconnect the switch and see if motor still runs if not replace switch if it still runs the the problem is in the wiring.. My guess is in the wiring. That circuit should be a switched meaning only works with key on. Remove the inside panel of tail gate and follow the wires from wiper look any bare wires touching

This is what you will need, any part store will have them. They are not welded, there is a clip that holds the ball that is attached to the back glass inside of the socket part of the lift support. They may be able to install them for you at the parts store.
