After doing some checking on most common causes I came up with this. I am including a simple and short video to show the testing procedure for a bad temp sensor which 99% of the time is the cause.

SOURCE: headlight bulb replacement

There should be a cap or cover behind the lamp assembly under the hood. 1/4 turn counter clockwise (if it is a hard cap) should expose the bulb and retaining spring (clip). Squeeze the clip to release it from lamp assembly. unplug old bulb, plug in new and then do the opposite to replace it. Good luck, them clips is the devil.

SOURCE: My xc70 Volvo shows a message "bulb failure

"position light" is a rear parking light which has failed or become unseated. Sometimes you can knock on the tail light housing and they will come back on, but they burn out shortly after regardless.

These and the low beam headlamps fail very frequently on these cars so you should become familiar with the replacement procedures.

How to override cooling electric fan on 2002 volvo xc70 2.5T to assist cooling when towing trailer

the fan will come on when the coolant temp reaches a preset temperature normally around 85 C
by passing the cooling temp sensor to have the fan running all of the time is a pointless exercise as if the thermostat is not open there is no coolant to cool and if the thermostat is fully open then the fans will be running anyway
what you should be thinking about is finding out why the vehicle is overheating when under load
have the fault codes read first
possible reasons are
at converter blocked
HO2S faulty
EGR problem
radiator cores blocked
transmission over heating and putting he radiator under stress coolant temp sensor faulty or relay faulty or fuses blown

The best way is to have someone reset it with a code reader. You can also try disconnecting the battery for about 5 minutes. Disconnect the positive side.

Volvo 1992 XC70 AWD radiator fan doesn't shut off draining the battery

It is likly a dirty relay. This is located on the passenger side by the ratiator fan, with a black plastic cover over the box. Be sure to disconnect the negetive side of the battery before working on any thing electric. Clean the relay contact points using 200 grid sand paper (wet-dry black paper), You can use a spray electric contact cleaner as well, which you can get at most autoparts stores.

I have a 2001 Volvo XC70. It has a trouble code

Well this can be caused by the thermostat being stuck open. The coolant temp will not come up to expected temp. It can also be caused by the fan being stuck on. Run the car and see if the fan stays on. If the fan is not stuck on it may well be the t-stat and replacing that should cause the check engine light to go off after a drive cycle.

Sounds like rubber seal is leaking, check the rubber seals along the side of the windshield and along the inner door. The seal can be easily replaced or patched with silicon sealeant.

Hope this helps
