The headlight covers on my 2002 camry SE are foggy. I tried using a cleaning kit, but didn't get very good results. How hard is it to replace the headlight assmbly? I'm a novice at this type of thing.

It is very easy to do this. Do not get intimidated. All you need is a simple socket set and a little bit of time. After putting your hood up, take a look at where your light assembly is on each side. You should see a bolt holding down the plastic at the top and I believe one toward the bottom near the wheel well area. Simply take those bolts out and the assembly should come out fairly easy. The actual bulb hooked to the wire should come out of the headlight assembly fairly easy also. You simply turn them to the left and you will get to a point where they will slip out of the grooves. They may not want to turn at first from being there so long, but they will come out. Get a little confidence in yourself and you can do it. This is one job I wouldn't pay a auto place to take care of. Hope this helps and gives you the confidence you need to do it yourself.

In order to get the headlight covers clean you must use a very fine sandpaper and clean the outer surface ,then polish the lense and even after you do that you need to seal it so it wont happen agin.It may work for awhile but unless you get a new headlamp it will come back.

I have a 2000 olds intrigue. The headlight lens are in bad shape. Tries cleaning them, did not work.foggy outside, shatter looking cracks inside. Can this be Fixed?

You can sand and re-polish with a headlight restoration kit. Just make sure it comes with a bottle of UV coating. But the cracks can't be removed. Buy aftermarket headlights and replace. They're $55 each at rockauto.com.

Low beam headlights on 2002 Mercury Couger are real dim

Are the lenses clear or are they yellowed? They make kits to clean the lenses (headlight covers) Compare your headlights to a new car - you should see the difference.

Cleaning foggy, oxidized headlight covers on my 2000 Subaru Outback with household items?nck AWD, 4 cylinder wagon...with?

Rubbing compound will buff off the oxidation that effects (clouds) the outside surface of plastics. Some waxes have a little abrasive that will help do this. Toothpaste will also work mixed with wax. Use some muscle and buff til it is dry to restore the plastic gloss. Shops use an electric or pneumatic buffer with a wool or foam pad and extra fine rubbing compound.

Remove headlight cover

The headlight cover is not really a cover...it is the assembly which needs to be removed completely from the car to access the bulb hole that is the only access to the interior surfaces of the assembly. Lots of screws and awkward positions to get it out. Best bet, leave it alone or pull the bulb socket and use very long q-tips to clean out moisture!

I have a 2004 freestar van that has headlights so dim i can hardly see where i am going at nite are there any fixes for this problem?

if you are referring to that foggy look on your headlights, you can buy cleaner kits at any parts store. wesleys bleach white seems to works some also. i have even seen tooth paste used with a wrag or the stuff you clean cd's with. Or just some plain plexi glass cleaner will do

1998 ford contour headlights foggy how do i fix it

They sell a kit to do this. Me personally use wet sand paper. First use 400 grit and wet sand it, then 800, then 1200 and then 2000.Sand each stage until the yellow color disapperas out of the water. Follow up with a good polish like Eagle One or Mothers. End result is like new as long as your inside of your lense has not turned milky or cloudy.

My headlights keep burning out, both bright and normal. They seem to be shorting out and it's getting expensive. Right after I replace one, the other one burns out! My lens covers are also no longer clear,...

If both lenses are foggy chances are your bulbs are acting like fuses and when wet/damp blowing, reseal with silicon,or replace lenses.(when lenses get foggy it is also a sign that the chrome has oxidised.)
