SOURCE: 1997 ford explorer 4.0 sohc how to set timing

There are no timing marks. Timing is done using special tools to hold the crank at top center and a tool to hold each camshaft in position. the cam sprockets are not pinned to the cams. there are also dummy tensioners installed to take up the slack till the tightening is done. Also there are chains at the back of the motor that can only be timed with the motor out of vehical.

SOURCE: P2195 CODE ON 2003 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC 4.O

Hello,
Very common concern with the Explorer, Explorer Sport Trac and Ranger with the 4.0l SOHC engine! The upper and lower intake manifold gaskets fail, causing vacuum leaks..It can be Extremely difficult to detect these leaks, because they only leak intermittently (usually in the AM after a cold soak)... As the engine warms up they seal back up! Sometimes the vehicle will idle rough, surge or stall after initial start up, then the symptoms will clear after it gets to operating temperature... Usually there will be no driveability symptoms at all, except the engine light coming on and setting lean codes.. The gaskets have been redesigned to correct this concern..

Where is 2003 ford focus camshafts position sensor

Camshaft Position Sensor
The camshaft position (CMP) sensor detects the position of the camshaft. The CMP sensor identifies when piston No. 1 is on its compression stroke. A signal is then sent to the powertrain control module (PCM) and used for synchronizing the firing of sequential fuel injectors. The Coil On Plug (COP) Ignition applications also use the CMP signal to select the proper ignition coil to fire. The input circuit to the PCM is referred to as the CMP input or circuit.
There are two types of CMP sensors: the three pin connector Hall-effect type sensor (Figure 25) and the two pin connector variable reluctance sensor

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the filtered air tube from the throttle body and air cleaner housing.
  3. For SOHC engines, remove the air cleaner inlet tube.
  4. For SOHC engines, detach the electrical connectors from the engine coolant sensor and the camshaft position sensor.
  5. For DOHC engines, unplug the electrical connector from the camshaft position sensor.
  6. For SOHC engines, remove the brake booster hose and the electrical connectors form the holders on the end of the cylinder head cover.
  7. Unfasten the camshaft position sensor mounting screws, then remove the sensor.
  8. Loosen the screw/bolt attaching the target magnet to the rear of the camshaft.
To Install: NOTE: The target magnet has 2 locating dowels which fit into the machined locating holes in the end of the camshaft.
