Me too 2008 cobalt LS 2.2, tried everything like it's suggested here, still drove in slow mode really bad going up any type of incline I was feeling like Wile E. Coyote and then I took the catalytic converter off, even bought new filters for when I reinstall it super easy 4 bolts I believe on each end and just unscrewed the air flow sensor and took a metal pole into one end, bang, bang, banged, that pole with a hammer, then the other side as it had two cats both had netting and gray dust fiber like filament. Put it back on the car, immediately got into the car and started it. I was so curious to see if I banged and banged and banged for nothing. It flies and I mean it fly's like super road runner fast that I smiled and grinned speeding past everyone beep beep!

How many miles on the vehicle ? How is it driven mostly , stop an go or highway miles ? Have you had it from new or used ? This is a problem with the
ENG PWR REDUCED
Cooling System or

  • Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) System
Reduced Engine Power Mode
When the ECM detects a condition with the TAC system, the ECM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
• Acceleration limiting--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control, however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.
• Limited throttle mode--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control, however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.
• Throttle default mode--The ECM will turn OFF the throttle actuator motor, and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.
• Forced idle mode--The ECM will perform the following actions:
- Limit engine speed to idle positioning the throttle position, or by controlling the fuel and spark if the throttle is turned OFF.
- Ignore the accelerator pedal input.
• Engine shutdown mode--The ECM will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

Is the check engine light on as well ?
The first place to start would be to hook up a factory or professional scanner an check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes .

Have the fuel pressure checked first as a weak pump or restricted filter can cause this . A bad electric throttle body control or pedal position module may put it into limited or reduced power mode .

If a warning light is on, there's a trouble code stored in the computer. There are well over 800-1,000 possible trouble codes in the average late model vehicle, so asking us to guess what's causing your problem without knowing the code is a complete waste of time. Get the code read. Post it here. THEN we can help

The torque converter clutch circuit may be at fault. The best way to determine the problem is to have a scanner/computer to read check engine codes.

I have a 2010 chevy cobalt. Engine power reduced light came on I took it to Autozone and had it scanned. Two codes popped up, p1682 and p0325. What could be wrong here?

As far as the cobalt, check tac/throttle actuator control. Below is circuit description for p1682.
The other codes was for knock sensor.

Why does reduce engine power light comes on chevy

That is a hard problem to pin point without knowing what codes the computer has stored. It can be any number or sensors or engine problems.

You can go to most auto parts stores and they will pull the codes for you for free.
