Replaced the relay with a new one
You have two voltage sources for the headlamps. the right headlamp fuse and the headlamp circuit breaker, both hot all the time, when relay is not energized. Does that make sense? The top wires in diagram for headlamps is voltage. Use a test light to test. The bottom wires in the diagram from headlamp are grounds. Your headlamp and dimmer switch are on the ground circuit. Just between me and you, I don't like drl. Just my opinion.
If you have any questions, holler, on the comment link.
Testimonial: "so in the relay 87a has power but 86 does not so where do I chase from there"
Bad Ground. Use ohm meter to source the problem. Does the battery still have the grounding braid in place. Does it need a replacement from corrosion. Lots of times a grade b mechanic will leave it off as a nuisance but it may create that little issue.
SOURCE: 1997 Chevrolet Headlight problem
We had the same exact symptoms right down to the clicking noise under the dash. A friend who is a mechanic provided all the wiring diagrams, etc and when we pulled the dash we found that there was another enclosure behind the dash.....we stopped there.......
....waited a few days, did some research and decided since a replacement headlight switch was about $50.00 the easiest route was to to swap that out hoping it would fix the problem....was also a very easy installation.
Turns out that fixed the problem. Good luck!!!
SOURCE: Low beam headlights don't work
I know this is not your problem, but my low beam stopped working, both bulbs failed, no burn marks or broken element. Just had to tell someone
SOURCE: low beam headlight /daytime light are not working
It's on the driver's side. Remove all the plastic & it's in there.Big rectangle, black box,about 1.5" thick,lotta wires.
SOURCE: 97 Chevy K1500 . daytime running lights work. Dash
ya im leaning the multi-function switch in the stearing column
SOURCE: daytime running lights work but go out when I turn
If you have daytime running lights but when you turn on your regular headlight on they do not come on. Take the bottom of your steering column off (Two Small Screws) and look at the back of your turn/dimmer switch make sure that the light blue wire is connected. The wires will break off after years of raising and lowering your steering column.
