When my 99 Silverado 1500 is in any drive it works just fine. But when you put it in neutral it still drives, reverse it won't move not even pushing it. But if you shut it off and put it in reverse you can push it back. It sounds like it's in gear and won't rev up in park. So it's like it's not Ingaging into park. Or reverse. And like I said in neutral it goes forward.

SOURCE: Everytime I put my car i park it goes into reverse.

It sounds like you have a damaged shifter cable. It is an adjustable cable but if it is that far out of adjustment then it is probably damaged. Replace it.

DIsconnext and reconnect the linkage at the transmission. You may want top replace the linkage cable all together. Make sure you set the parking break and block the tires

SOURCE: 1991 Caprice No reverse. Moves in neutral. All forward gears OK.

This is Ron out of Vero Beach Florida. I have been doing trannys for years. The problem you described is caused (more than likely) by a seized clutch pack. Depending on the trans, and your car should be RWD with a 700r4 tranny, there are several sets of clutch packs and at least one band. Automatic transmissions rely on fluid pressure to "engage" the correct set of clutch discs, at the right time , to engage and change gears. I have seen in the past, where a customer parks his car for the evening and the next morning, no move. What happened?? More than likely, a clutch pack was on it\'s way out but cause the car was hot the plates were free, but after cooling, they can weld themselves together and actually "lock-up". In the morning you know the end result. Your tip on "moves in Nuetral" is the give away. Ron

My 2000 Chevy silverado 1500 z71 wont move. used 4wd then tried to put back into 2wd it would shift into any gear. Put back in park it makes a grinding noise

Sounds like your transfer case in neutral. You have to engage the transfer case back into gear then shift selector to drive or reverse. When your transfer is in neutral the transmission will not operate. Good luck.

How do i adjust emergency brake on 2004 silverado

With truck running, try putting the truck in reverse, then neutral, try the brake release again. At first the lever pulled out and the pedal didn't move. Then I put the truck in drive, it won't budge, I looked for a break in the cable and saw nothing, it looked fine. I ran to the web site and looked for advice. Meanwhile my wife, who knows nothing but to put gas in a vehicle and go, climbed into my truck and put the truck in reverse and neutral, then released the brake. She got me on this one.

!996 Toyota corolla, starts up ok but when put on reverse or drive, won't move even when pushed

Check the gear lever connection with the gearbox.
Check the gearbox oil level and colour. Replace if necessary.

1999 chevrolet silverado 1500 when i start it up it makes a clunk under the truck, it sounds like it comes near the transfer case or transmission. Also it is 4x4 and it is an automatic. Does anyone know...

If this is the only problem you notice, it sounds like universal joint going bad in the drive line. Put the gear selector in Drive from neutral and then back to neutral and then select reverse. Listen for the clunk when changing from drive to neutral and neutral to reverse. A bad universal joint will make a clunking sound when the drive line reverses direction because of the slop in the joint due to the bad needle bearings.

99 chevy silverado Unstable idle when it worms up

Check the engine mountain rubbers ,, one or more of them is broken and needs to be replaced.

pop the hood, start the vehicle and move it from park to drive to reverse with the brake pedal down and you will see the engine moving. the broken mounting rubbers are the cause for this.
