Hi:
This same thing happened to my daughter,s car, and it ended up being fixed with a transmission speed sensor. This sensor not only runs the speedometer, it helps tell the transmission when to shift too.

This was a common problem mostly with the 3.0 not so much the 3.3 or 3.8. Im not sure what engine you have because they came with both. Im guessing you have the 3.0. The problem I always had was the throttle body would get dirty inside causing not enough air to get into the engine at idle. Remove the air cleaner hose at the engine side then get some carb cleaner and spray it inside the throttle body. Take a clean rag and clean the butterfly and its edges and around the inside where the butterfly closes. This will most likely take care of your problem and it cheap fix if it works.

SOURCE: All gauges stopped working --

smack the center of the dash right above the instrument cluster several times with the vehicle running. If the instrument cluster starts working you more than likley have a bad solder joint in the main connector on the circuit board.

You will need to pull the instrument cluster, partially disassemble it, checked for cracked solder joints, and then using a soldering iron re-flow those joints.

I have repaired many of these including my wife's town and country. I have photos of the bad joints let me know if you would like to see them an I'll get them posted.

If you have any other questions I will be happy to help.

You have an engine light on

So as with ALL Vehicle problems

You check for codes & resolve them first

Simply can't guess at vehicle problems without
a vehicle to drive & test

My 99 Plymouth grand voyager has a recurring brakes problem. What could be wrong?

Fixed--- I don't think so !!

3 Mechanics-that is sad

How about the power brake booster?
Was that checked & the vacuum check valve okey?

You wouldn't be happy if that solved the issue & you
got the valve off the wall on a trip thru the parts store
& installed yourself

What about ABS Issues?

What happens if you command the valves open
with a scan tool, bleed system & test drive with scanner
and valves still open or disconnect the motor to it & drive
around a few days.

I remember a load leveler valve under the back on
the drivers side on some caravans?

The fluid has to go somewhere,if not back into the reservoir,
then the abs unit maybe.

Better check the not leaking part yourself, unless you don't
loose any fluid

You bleed them there okey for 3 days, why, that is the key,
then what?

I have a 1998 plymouth voyager when going up hill it boggs out and wont go over 20 miles per hr.

Could be a clogged Exhaust Converter. I usually never replace any on my vehicles, even after 17 years. That said, they do fail for various reasons.

A bad EGR Valve would be a common parts failure on all vehicles, and high engine vacuum on a hill, would point that way, if it bucks, as well as slows down.

Then you have ignition problems. All vehicles experience those at some point in time, and a hill would put an electrical load on the system, especially on a hot day.

Iam going to assume the Trans doesn't slip or you see a flair or spike on the Tach, when it slows.
