Hello. I have a 07 Dodge Magnum. I had an oil change and an inpection done on my car a little over a month ago. A week later, my starter went out. Two weeks after that, my car was already out of oil. Now, my engine is tapping and/or knocking with smoke coming from the muffler. What could be the problem?

I would get a lawyer 3 weeks you should not be out of oil. A starter could go anytime. The engine is most likely going bad. If the smoke is blue you are burning oil. I

Seems that you either have a bad piston ring, or valve seal somewhere. Really to be straight, this sounds more like a motor going bad. I would ensure they A.) put oil back in it, and B.) put the right oil in it. Not to say they are a bad shop, but we are all human. It may not even be related to that. Good luck to you

SOURCE: audi engine oil leak?

Sounds like a leaking valve cover gasket. The parts are around $50 to do both cylinder heads from www.ecstuning.com. It's not a major issue, but it may be a sore point to a potential buyer.

SOURCE: 98 f150 4.2 110.000 miles went to start up engine started clacking and smoking out exhaust

the intakes go bad on these engines....... they leak coolant in the cylinders and cause a hydro lock that causes the rods to bend making the piston skirt hit the crank......" clicking noise" theres a law suit in progress for this issue......... you can find info on the internet

SOURCE: Oil Change two weeks ago and oil level is low already???

I assume you have no leaks as you say. Your van does hold 5 quarts of 10w30 oil with filter change. The level was 1/4" above the add mark, which is less than 1 quart low. You drove the van 1,300 miles so it is very possible that it could burn that much oil in that many miles without you seeing much smoke. Top it off and have someone else drive it. Have them get up to around 60 mph, then let off the accelerator and let it coast down to 30 mph, then accelerate fully while you follow in another vehicle. If your van is burning oil you will see a big puff of blue smoke when they accelerate after coasting. If you do not I would suspect you were cheated out of about 1/2 quart of oil. You would not be the first person this has happened to. Top it off and check as I described and then check the level after driving another 1,300 miles. If it is still full find another place to change your oil as the place you went are crooks.

I have a 05 Magnum with around 170,000 miles on it. The ABS and ESP lights are on as well as the engine light. The ABS and ESP lights were on for about 4 months and when I slowly went through a 10"...

have a fault scan done by a reputable shop or auto parts store. Anytime lights come on indicates a fault was tracked by OBII. You should get addressed ASAP when lights come on. Driving 4 mos. could've caused major damage. But in this case I think it was a low voltage issue that triggered lights, regardless, get scanned and address the issue correctly.

Tapping noise

sounds to me it going under the car as your driving .i would look at the oil pressure switch or sensor to see if it is leaking .you wouldnt notice a drip because it wont leak unless it is running , kinda a common problem for dodge
also see if you have a oil cooler either seperate or builtin to the radiator and look in the radiator for oil.

4th starter in 1 1/2 years on a 2002 sable

Ask the mech to dissassemble an old starter if it is not turned in for a core. If it is an oil leak are you using a lot of oil to keep it up to the full mark on dipstick. The copper windings in the starter may be soaked with oil, and the oil will attract road grime and dirt and be so clogged that the brushes cannot contack windings and clog up the whole works. Check to see if the valve cover gaskets are leaking down onto starter, they may have vibrated a little loose and just need tightened or replaced. Can really be the only thing that would go wrong with the starter, unless your battery is way to small or way to big. Check CCA, Cold cranking amps with the owners manual for replacement battery size.
