2001 Suburbans generally have two belts. The primary drive belt and the A/C compressor belt. You must first remove the primary drive belt before removing the A/C belt. They are both kept in place with a tensioner. A standard 3/8 rachet will help give you the leverage to disengage the tensioner and remove the belt. Replace in reverse order.

There should be a belt tensioner in line with the belt, take a wrench or rachet and pull on it till the belt is loose enough to take off let tensioner go slowly then pull tensioner the same direction as you did to take old belt off slip the new belt on how it goes bye the diagram make sure belt is on all the pullies good start vehicle and make sure belt is working properly then shut the hood you are done make sure there is a diagram of how the belt is routed before you take off the old belt, usually the diagram is like on the metal or plastic piece in front of the radiator if not there usually there is diagram on the under side of the hood.If you can't find a diagram anywhere draw one up or look in your book there might be one.

2001 suburban flushed core, changed radiator,,fresh coolant.heat at rear, cool air in front. Does Ac belt need to be attached

No. AC belt has nothing to do with it. Make sure your heater control valve underhood is moving when you go from hot to cold. If okay, check hot/cold blend door actuator under dash moving when switching from hot to cold. It's definitely one or the other. Fairly simple system.

Process for changing 2001 Chevrolet Suburban surpentine belt

See diagram posted on radiator housing or download picture from internet site.

Use wrench, or hand, to pull/push slack adjuster away from old belt.
Place new belt around all pulleys except the slack adjuster
Pull slack adjuster to slack position and place belt onto it.

Mine is so easy to move that I can move it w/o any tools just with my hand.

Battery voltage fluctuates while in idle

Check condition and belt tension for alternator. back of belt should be level with the pulley edges if V belt. If serpentine belt check for cracks on the inside of the belt-- Replace if hard and cracked.

How do you loosen the drive belt on the 2001 suburban? I am changing the alternator.

look at the tensioner. It may have square cutout. You can use a ratchet for it. Or if no hole on tensioner you use a wrench on the pulley.. Its spring loaded. Usually the wrench will be between 14 and a 16mm
