Was the engine hot when it was washed ?
Testimonial: "Probably because it wasn’t sitting too long before I washed it"
I used to detail cars and I know how aggravating it is when this happens . When hot sometimes the sudden cooling from the water causes things to crack or fail from thermal contraction . I would and have had to myself check all the connectors first . Unplug them and apply Vaseline or dielectric grease before snapping them back together.
I had a guy I know at a local shop plug it in a diaagnostic tester and it showed many things such as missing on 12345 cylinder but not 6? and also knock sensor which he suggested that I change first and who knows it is possible that it is only a coincidence that this happened at the time I wash It?? And like I said before it runs great for the first three or four minutes until temperature gauge starts to come up ??
What color were the plugs you removed ?

sounds like a bad injector take it to the dealer ship and have it checked out

Yup. The throttle body connectors have a history of failing on these cars. Replace the throttle body and the wire connectors that go to it, and you're back in business. Not terribly difficult and you can get the parts from any dealer. Saturn actually has a bulletin out on this problem but they won't cover it unless you're under warranty - no recall for this.

the scan tool that you are using will not read codes from all of the modules. take the car to a gm dealer to have it checked with a tech2

Replace you fuel Injector pump and check for any bad or clogged injectors. make sure idle adjustment screw is properly set

I would start with cleaning the throttle bore and plate. Then clean the Idle Air Control valve, IAC, as this is the device that controls idle speed. Use a can of spray carb cleaner and an old toothbrush. Trouble with the IAC would make sense if you can keep the engine going by holding down the gas pedal a bit.
Use the carb cleaner to check for vacuum leaks at hose connections and elbows. run engine and spray short bursts at hoses and listen for idle speed changes.
And lastly if problem is still there check MAP sensor.

I might also add that since this problem I changed the valve cover gaskets and spark plugs and put new boots in it
It sounds like the ignition may be heat failing . Does this one have a plastic intake manifold ?
