Wait until motor is cool. remove rad cap and loosen rad drain pet **** under rad. If you can't loosen it or cant find it, remove lower rad hose. let all antifreeze drain. Close pet **** or replace rad hose. Fill with water and rad flush(you can get the flush from an auto supply store or wallmart). Run for the recommended time on rad flush bottle. Wait for motor to cool. Then drain out water. Refill with 50% prestone and distiled water.

You can buy a flush kit from your local auto supply store to add to your cooling system for this and future flushing. As for changing your thermostat - simply remove the thermostat housing - remove the old thermostat - replace with new (be sure it is the one rated for the season at hand) - replace gaskets (or use RTV gasket maker) and reinstall housing. Fill the system with proper % ratio of coolant to water (usually 50/50). Drive away happy.:) PS You can find your thermostat housing by following the top rad hose from the rad back to it at the intake manifold.

You just drain coolant from radiator & replace every 3 years
Flushing is done at a repair shop & is not necessary
You can fill with water ,run awhile & drain again, to accomplish
the same thing
SOURCE: Can a cam shaft issue with a 2011 Chevy hhr cause the car to cut off if not fixed?
Not usually. Cam sensor is for injector firing. When they go bad the PCM goes to default mode. (Last known sequence) Then runs off the crank sensor. But depending on what the exact problem was, The cam and crank senors run off the same power and ground from the PCM. The return signals are separate wires. Just something to look at.
