Do a relative cylinder compression test. It could be a worn cylinder or valve no longer seating properly.

Testimonial: "Thank you I will try a compression test."

SOURCE: Ford Puma 1.7. Misfire

Old School...
If the engine is misfiring then the cylinder doing the misfire if irt is only one that is will be easy to read...
As you pull each plug examine it. compare them to eachouter as you do this...
The plug that skips will be wet or more blackened from carbon build up.
Now you know with one. First check toat plug wire and also examine the supressor, that is the part that keeps the wire connection to the plug. Look under the garmets or the rubber insultors on this unit. see if ther is any pothole burn marks. These thing should be part of the ignition wire when you changed the set. Another is to check the compression. With the gauge connection replacing the sparkplug ...At full trottle crank the engine using the ignition key sound like about 4 times.
The gauge should read over 110 if this number is less reset the gauge and do it again a couple of times to make sure. Now doing it over and over still gets you a lower reading then that cylinder piston or valves is not sealing properly letting air escape on the compression stroke reducing the combustion ration and getting a bad burn making the engine skip. I had this happen to me and all it was was a bad suppressor a new, wire set worked.

Initial start up the engine sounds like its running on 2 cylinders under powered intil the temp gauge reads normal ???? any body got the answer please

Cold starting misfires can often be caused by either tired high tension spark plug leads or ignition coil packs. If replacing leads, then replace with a full, new set. Coils can be changed individually, but it is often the case that if one has failed, then the others aren't far behind. Some cars have individual coil packs on each spark plug. Some cars have a single pack for all plugs and some have coil packs which may control two or more plugs.

To check for a misfire (ignition failure) follow these steps:

(Cold start) (Use a pair of insulated pliers)

1) Start the vehicle

2) When the vehicle starts misfiring, disconnect plug leads or coil pack connections one at a time. If the vehicle idles even more roughly, then that plug or pack should be considered fine.
Replug each connection before disconnecting the next one. Once you disconnect a plug lead or coil pack connection and find no difference in poor engine running, then you have likely found the offending cylinder. Check the spark plug condition, lead and/or coil condition and connections on that cylinder.

3) Replace components as necessary.

2000 ranger 4.0 misfire and running lean bank 1 and 2

What config motor? I'm confused is it a 4 litre straight 6 or a V configeration. If straight 6 spray aerostart around nr 1 intake manifold to head if idle picks up you need a new intake gasket this is very common. is it missing at idle, under load (up hill) or both. does it have coil overs (coil on each plug or old leads set up?

2002 saab 9-3 turbo car starts and runs when driving during acceleration turbo boost shoots to the red and car shuts down P0300 random misfire what can I do.

by the sound of it you could have one or both of these problems.
1. a vacuum leak which is causing the car to over boost.
2. ignition fault which is causing the car to die.

1. look in the engine bay and look for small rubber hoses, check all you can find and look for cracks or splits. make sure you check the small rubber hose on the turbo itself.

2. you may have a faulty spark plug, coil pack, HT lead (depending on which engine you have)

1 is probably your boost problem
2 is your cutting out problem
i hope this helps

Changed all 8 plugs on a 1998 expecition, then misfires started under load, none supposedly prior. changed all coils, reinspected plugs for damage, crackes etc-changed some again- no codes during first week...

The first thing I would check is, are any of the plug wires crossed. Your firing order should be 1 3 7 2 6 5 4 8, the cylinders are number front to back passenger side 1 2 3 4, drivers side 5 6 7 8.

Misfire on cylinder 4 only when accelerating

Try a compression test. You could have a bent valve or a bad ring on the piston. If the compression test shows it to be much lower than the other cylinders then its a mechanical problem. The valve may not be seating or a weak spring isn't allowing the valves to close and its leaking under load.
