I don't think the dial is backwards, because then it would be facing in if reversed. Did you have the control box out and unhooked the wires or put the control in upside down? It wouldn't reverse function for anything less than an actual physical change in the components.

SOURCE: 2001 dodge dakota crank no start

Just had that problem w/ my 01 Dekota, it was the resistor that used to be mounted on the firewall and easy to get to but that is now mounted low on the back of the engine jammed into a bey tight position. I couldn't get to it myself, so ended up taking it to neighborhood garage. Cost me about $150

Your A/C sounds like it needs to be vacuumed
out and then recharged to factory specs. That
should solve the problem.

SOURCE: 2001 Dodge Caravan heater blows cold air when stopped

Have you checked the coolant level? What you describe is exactly what happens if the coolant level is low. When stopped at idle, hot coolant is not circulating through the heater core, so no heat. As the engine increases in rpm's when you pull away from the light, the water pump is spinning quicker, and some coolant is making it to the heater core. So check the level, and if it is low, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again. That of course indicates a leak somewhere. Get it fixed, as overheating the engine leads to costly repairs and worse case a new engine. Let me know how you make out with this.

SOURCE: Manual transmission oil change method - Dakota

Disconnect the plug underneath to drain fluid, look in your service manual to find the capacity and viscosity. There is a plug in the side of the transmission as well that is the filler plug, however it is more convenient to pour through the shifter once you remove it. If you use the filler plug method you will have to attach a tube to the oil bottle and squeeze it into the transmission as there may not be ample room to tilt the bottle and use gravity.

Testimonial: "Thank you for this tip. The manual does not show capacity for the transmission but I found on other forums that the amount seems to be 4.8 liters."
