The retractable handle on my suitcase will not pull out because the tube is bent. can I get a new mechanism?

I would start at the manufacturer of the Calvin Klein suitcase.

UHOH, might try a bent butter knife or other bent metal and slip it in the crack between the tailgate and the side panel on the side that the rod from the handle came off on, but if it came off both sides you'll have to work both latch at the same time which will require the help of a buddy unless your pretty acrobatic. You have to push in the catch or catches that are not retracting to unlatch the tailgate. Good luck if all else fails you'll need to take it to a body shop. Some trucks you can get to the rods to the latches trough the hole where the handle mounts with some needle nose and pull the rods if they came loose at the middle.

in the auto parts store or in the tool section in a hardware store there is a long metal spring looking tool that has metal fingers that extend out when pushing down on the button and grab and retract when button is released
the tool is about 24 inches long most times it has a red T handle. if that will fit down the dip stick oil tube it should garb and hold the dip stick enough to remove it. next time when attaching an object back to the handle if it is metal clean / dry and try some JB weld pull test for rigidness and good contact.

The screws securing the latch mechanism may have come loose. I had this problem. I had to remove all the screws from the rear hatch panel, within the luggage compartment. I pulled the panel away from the bottom of the window, bent it slightly, enough to get my arm in there to reach down to pull on the lever that releases the latch. grab a flashlight and a partner. have your partner turn the key to "open" and pull on the rear door handle. with the flashlight you will be able to see or feel the rod moving. pull up on this rod. After you get the door open spray some lube on the lock mechanism and adjust as needed. The rod that you pulled on can be adjusted

You need to take out the broken piece and you will be left with a rectangle hole to insert a tool. I took a screw driver and bent the last inch over just past 90 degrees. I then inserted the bent end in and felt the latch mechanism (it is horizontal). Put the tip of the bent screwdriver on the lever and then pull down. Make sure the hatch is unlocked. You can pry open the space between the glass and the rubber and look down with a flashlight if you have trouble feeling the latch. There is also a good video on You Tube. Type in Sequoia rear latch handle and you should find it. It is about 10 min long and show you how to take off the inside panels to replace the broken part

Is the hood bent just enough where it wont latch? Try to put a 2x4 near the back part where the hinge or shock go and close hood gently andpush gently until hood bends back to shape and will close

you need to pull the belt out all the way to release it ,they have a locking mechanism for baby seats that stops them retracting,you pull them all the way out and they are reset and retract,common in modern cars,rare to give trouble

VERY common issue.. the handle being replaced is ok.. but the actual metal rod that connects it to the latch needs bent a little to make it more responsive, what happens is over time this rod (which is bent slightly) will straighten, and the operator pulls harder on the handle which eventually brakes.. then replacing the handle will solve it for a while, until the trend repeats itself... VERY common, I have fixed hundreds in the shop so far...
